Product Description

Instead of carrying a satchel full of products like moisturizers, astringents, and healing balms, we combine everything into one product: our post-shave salve. The moisturizing properties of the glycerin and lanolin reinforce the all-around goodness of shea butter, avocado oil and coconut oil. After scraping your skin with cold, hard steel, witch hazel and aloe vera sooth irritation and battle redness.

Instructions for use: Take your trigger finger and scoop a dime-sized amount, a little bit goes a long way… then rub it between your palms until it reaches body temperature. Massage it into your freshly shorn, still damp skin. Make sure you take the time to really work it into damp skin for 45 seconds to a minute, which helps with absorption and allows you to enjoy the blooming scent. Depending on the dryness of the skin, the absorption time will vary.

The smell of La Quatrième Ville seeks to recapture that time of refined character and ambitiousness. A refined, masculine smell brings back the bustle of Forest Park during the World’s Fair: the woods, attractions and waterfronts are reflected in the vetiver, cypress, incense, nagarmotha, violet leaf, benzoin, and cardamom.

If you have dry, sensitive skin and like strong complex odors, this will be a product of immense interest to you.

My face does well with Nivea Sensitive / Cooling balms as I need the potent mixes of those to soothe, de-redden, and hydrate my face, The only issue with Nivea is the bland scents, that are quite forgettable. CL shaving balms by comparison work as good or better, but have world class scents, full of dynamic complexity that evolves over the 1 or 2 minutes you spend rubbing the balm in.

Application is similar to using those “pit paste” style natural deodorants, but you need to apply the CL salve to a wet face. Blending the salve with the moisture on your face is the trick here – too little water and the salve will dry up once applied. After you spread the dry salve onto each hand, rub each hand on your wet face and then after a few strokes, rub your hands together again to evenly distribute the moistened salve mixture and then return to rubbing in after both hands have moist salve evenly distributed. Sound complex? It’s not. We got to the moon and built the internet folks; this is small beans in comparison!

Anyway, if you have regular type skin (neither dry nor oily) this may be harder to get to absorb in the summer months. If you have oily skin, don’t use this. In either of these cases, CL has the same scents available in alcohol based aftershaves and botanical splashes. If you have dry skin though, this is a great year round moisturizer.

This particular scent is a nice blend of woods and vetiver. The cypress is balanced out by floral notes from the violet, and the exotic cardamom scent lightens things up. About my favorite of the great CL lineup of scents! If you like vetiver, this is a great choice, as it is the biggest vetiver note in the CL line.

Be sure you follow the instructions in use, make sure your shaved face is still wet, and don’t use if you have oily skin.
