I read some good things about these knots so I figured I would try one out. I ordered this 24mm black with white tips and set it into a vintage Ever Ready C40 handle. The base of the knot measures perfectly 24mm give or take a couple tenths, and I opened up the bore of the handle to around 25mm. I set the knot around 13mm deep and used it this morning for the first time. WOW. Very nice! Holds a lot of lather and for me, it has a great mix of backbone and splay. I shave my head and this knot is very nice. Very soft! I also ordered the other style synthetics from them and this one is definitely the stiffest as previously reported by others. The timberwolf is next in line then the regular is the softest. I'm going to set all of them because I think they will all perform equally and I like having a mix to change things up a bit.

I put this knot in a 25mm Maggard Razors Shaving Brush Handle with the default seating (no coins to make the handle plug shallower), and it had very little splay without pressing really hard on my face. It had less splay and was more dense than the Kent Infinity Silvertex brush (which also does not have much splay at all). So if you like a dense synthetic brush with little to no splay, this is the one for you. Maybe if I put this knot in a 26mm handle or if I used some coins to make the handle plug shallower, maybe I could get more splay out if it. I think this is a great knot with soft fibers, it just has less splay/more backbone than I care for. I swapped out the black and white knot for the timber wolf knot of the same size in the same handle and I liked it better as I like a little more splay in my brushes. For reference, Brad gave the Maggard synthetic brush backbone order as follows (from least backbone to most): blonde, banded, wolf grey/black, then black/white.

I took the boars knot out of an Omega handle I have from when I first started DE shaving a few years ago. I can't say how this knot would work on hard soaps as I usually only use soft soaps. It holds moisture good, easy to load, and builds lather on my face like a dream. If your into the synthetic brushes the Maggard line is great and you can't beat the price. This brush along with one Maggards soft soaps make a great combination.

Bought this to go into a dark marble handle i am making. cant comment on shaving performance for this one yet but the build quality seems nice with plenty of backbone and soft tips and i look forward to using it.
