The MR1 is a short knurled handle razor with a satin finish solid stainless steel handle.

Quality materials and a great price – it is difficult to go wrong with a Maggard Razors DE. These traditional double edge safety razors are ideal for the beginner, while seasoned wet shavers will appreciate the high quality handles and smooth shaving heads.

Heads: We now offer 5 different heads to choose from. Each comes with its own shaving characteristics.
  1. The V3 Standard: Best for beginners, this head offers a mild-moderate shave with excellent efficiency. Shaves just as well as many of the big name brands with no noticeable difference in quality.
  2. The V2 Open Comb: Another great option for beginners, the V2 Open comb shaves nearly identical to the Parker 24C/26C heads. Super comfortable, and super efficient – this heads gives the results of the aggressive razors without any of the harshness.
  3. The V3A Aggressive: Enthusiasts and those looking for a more aggressive razor to plow through the toughest of beards may opt for the V3A – a highly efficient shaving head that offers plenty of blade exposure. With some time and skill we feel many will enjoy this head.
  4. The V3M Mild:  A milder feel with a high level of efficiency sets this head apart from many other mild heads on the market.
  5. The Maggard Slant Head: Released in September 2016, our new Slant Razor Head is a great way to try out a slant head design without breaking the bank.

Materials:
Most of the Maggard Razors line come equipped with solid 303 stainless steel handles. The heads of the entire Maggard line are chrome plated cast zinc alloy.

This is the razor i got from the starter kit last summer and i get excellent shaves out of it using Astra blades. It took me a while to realize the handle is stainless steel which is incredible at this price range. My V3 shows a little wear and tear but the handle doesn't look impressed. With that in mind it isn't a stupid idea to grab a few more heads to try, or shell out for a stainless steel head to last a lifetime. Thank you for this sweet deal.

Maggards is basically selling you a gorgeous STAINLESS handle with REAL knurling, not the fake "for-show" stuff that comes on your so-called entry-level.overpriced junk that Merkur is currently making. I ordered the V3 head to go with the MR1 and am one happy customer. Read on for a little history. I started out using a cheap VDH short handle that Target was selling for $10 on sale, really weird combination of aggressive blade angle with little actual blade exposure. It was fine to start with but frustrating when trying to remove only a days worth of growth and struggling. Next I tried the Merkur 34c and boy what a hunk of junk that was, thankfully I was able to return that paperweight in time. It couldn't place the blade straight, the knurling was useless, and it was only a smidge more aggressive than the VDH. I figured for what Maggard's was charging, it wouldn't be horrible if it was equal to the Merkur in performance for half the price. I can say that it is a FANTASTIC combination and one I am proud to use on a daily basis. This is no "cheap" razor folks, this is high quality gear for a great price. Perfect blade exposure/angle for a beginner/intermediate shaver who likes sharp blades like Feathers and Astra SP's. It's a great feeling to find something that makes you feel content and not endlessly searching for something better. You don't need to spend a lot for a great shave. Here's an awesome shave for me: Maggard MR1/V3 Astra SP Blades (100 pack) Tabac Shave Soap (or stick if you prefer) Omega 10066 Boar Brush Your Drug Store Aftershave of Choice (I love Brut and Aqua Velva Musk) For less than $70 you can shave like a king with the coin of a pauper for 6-12 months depending on how often you shave. If you are new to shaving I would get the MR1/V3 as your first DE razor and it may just last you a long while. Stay away from Amazon, go with a real shop like Maggards. Very fair prices, knowledgable people, fast shippers, and they have some great stuff no one else has, like the Maggard MR1/V3.

Wow! I chose the V2 open comb head option. *I VERY STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS HEAD.* This is a very impressive razor at any price. At Maggard's price, it is a great bargain too. My measurements: Handle: 53g, 79mm. Guard plate: 21g. Cap: 15g. Total length (assembled, with a blade): 88mm. Blade gap: .010" (.25mm). The V2 head is very well designed: The blade gap is tiny, providing a very mild shave, but the razor head is designed in such a way that the blade end gets under the whiskers and gets the job done in spite of the small blade gap. I have thick, fast-growing, shave-resistant whiskers and problem areas on the neck, and this razor gave me a great shave, with no real problems at all. The first pass resulted in a "good enough" shave, and further passes resulted in a smoother shave without scraping. The Maggard MR1 handle was also great. I turn my razor often while shaving, so I like a handle with a good grip --- the MR1 didn't let me down (and, thanks to the good grip, I didn't let it down either). I'm a bit beyond middle age, so unlike the younger folks whom we can thank for the recent resurgence in safety razor shaving, I prefer a more old-fashioned handle -- one that is shorter and lighter than some of the popular handles. The MR1 fits the bill nicely. (And, for those of you who do like handles that are heavier or longer or both, Maggard has plenty of nice options that look like they'd be just as grippy as the MR1.) The only improvement I could think of for the MR1 would be to drill it out all the way through (like the Merkur three-piece handles) -- this would lighten it up a bit more without making it too light, and it would make it easier to keep clean and dry.

Just received mr1 razor and couldn't be more pleased. Haven't used it yet however have to say this razor looks wise is on a par with Edwin Jagger razors. Absolutely flawless finish and blade sits perfectly with no wiggle or unevenness what so ever. Have to say that finish is better than the Merkurs I have. Purchase and delivery process were flawless. Would recommend to anyone looking for a quality razor at a very very reasonable price. Just go for it. You won't be disappointed!
