Mitchell’s Wool Fat shaving soap is made with natural lanolin and creates a great lather for perfect shaving results. This gentle soap is suitable for sensitive skin and comes complete in an individually hand made ceramic shaving bowl.  All locally sourced from within the British Isles.

Ingredients: Sodium Palmate, Sodium Stearate, Potassium Stearate, Aqua (Water), Sodium Palm Kernelate, Sodium Laurate, Potassium Laurate, Glycerin, Palm Kernel Acid, Parfum (Fragrance), Potassium Palm Kernelate, Titanium Dioxide, Lanolin, Sodium Chloride, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Tetrasodium Iminodisuccinate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Sodium Gluconate, Hexyl Cinnamal, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Limonene, Linalool.

Reliable

This is my go-to soap if i can’t decide what to use. It’s incredibly easy for me to lather (i use a boar brush),the lather’s thick with a great cushion, and it provides great glide. It has a very neutral, breezy scent that reminds me of air dried sheets fresh from the clothesline. There’s no sharpness or strength in the scent.

Follow up on my previous review—Maggard’s sent me a replacement Mitchell’s since my first one was delivered broken. They couldn’t have been more professional in processing the problem and providing excellent customer support. As for the ceramic container there have been several customer reviews on various online stores complaining of receiving broken containers. The problem is in Mitchell’s own product packaging not providing much support for the bowl in transit and therefore the only way for secure deliver is for the vendor to over pad/support it in their shipping package. The walls of the ceramic container are rather thin so it’s easy to crack compared to the Tabac milk glass container. Ok, as for the soap it’s really amazing—I like it more than Tabac and even my main go to Proraso. It does have parfum but not enough to cause a reaction unlike Tabac, which uses way too much—it’s just over the top. Mitchell’s soap lathers as well as Tabac if not better in my opinion and without the unhealthy parfum chemicals imaking it my new favorite in the rotation. Also, I have hard water and there is still no problem getting this to lather quickly. You should have no issues with that if you use good technique and have a decent brush. Thank you Maggard’s for excellent customer service. For what it’s worth, I highly recommend both Mitchell’s and Maggard’s.

Maggard Razors has usually been a great place to get my shaving supplies and thought they did a great job packaging my Tabac soap order so I made sure my son ordered from Maggards when he wanted to get me Mitchel's for Christmas. I opened the gift wrapped (unopened shipping box) on Chrismas day only to see a verrrryyyy cracked ceramic jar—looked like someone, perhaps a very angry mobster took a baseball bat to it. Anyway, the lid was intact but everything else not so good. The packing only had some newpaper inside so there wasn't any real protection for the ceramic container—total fail and very disappinting. So I would recomend you order refills from Maggards but not the ceramic container to avoid wasting time going through the return process. Can't comment on the soap because we are returning it with the broken jar. On the positive side I opened another present and got a new pair of Apple AirPods!

A great soap always in my rotation. I don't find it difficult to lather but I tend to overload a new soap and then reduce the loading gradually overtime to find the right point. I also lather in a bowl not on the face. The performance is great and the scent is pleasant but mild. I tend to use it as my neutral soap that goes with virtually all aftershaves.

The smell is quite appealing but ephemeral. The lather is fine. What disappointed is its glide, even with a new blade. It does last for many shaves. With a pre-shave oil it all comes together, but adding the oil is essential for me. I'm a daily shaver. I will look among the myriad other offerings for my next soap.
