Tabac Original Shaving Soap produces a luxurious lather to ensure an easy, comfortable shave.
Paul – June 23, 2014:
This is the king of shaves for me. This soap is a classic for a reason – excellent performance from the very easy lathering to the top notch skin protection and aftershave feeling. The scent is polarizing, but rest assured that if you don’t like the scent, it will be very easy to trade or sell it to someone who loves it. I would describe the scent as a masculine floral with citrus. I think officially its something like tobacco flower and bergamot and other scents. I love it because it reminds me of my Dad, who used refill pucks in his shaving mug since at least the 1970s.
This one comes with a really nice milk glass container – the same material used for vases. It’s durable and just cool looking.

The foam excellent results from this SOAP, slip the blade is beautiful.
In the description of the fragrances I’m not strong, but it’s a male, slightly sweet and very nice.
Marya – August 14, 2015:
I love this soap. It is by far the easiest soap to load & lather that I own… even with my insanely hard water it bursts QUICKLY to a stellar creamy, slick, and cushiony lather. It doesn’t “feel” as slick as my favorite Stirling soaps but the razor glides every bit as well nonetheless. I always use Tabac when I’m trying out a new brush, blade, or razor since it is such an incredibly reliable performer… the consistent results make it easier to evaluate and compare new items.
The “bowl” is nice and looks awesome. It can be a bit small to load from if you are using a large brush, but it is manageable without too much difficulty. With a small face lathering brush it’s plenty big. The lid sits loosely but in some ways that is good, especially if you live in a dusty desert (like I do) since it keeps the soap clean but still allows enough air into the bowl to let the soap dry properly between uses.
Some don’t like the scent (a few even hate it) but I personally find it amazing and almost addicting. I actually wish it lingered much longer than it does (I plan to try the cologne when I have the money). It’s a difficult scent to describe… slightly floral but with a hint of musk, maybe a faint touch of amber… I’m terrible at describing complex scents but I find Tabac very intoxicating. It is often described as being very masculine but I personally think it would appeal to a decent percentage of female wet shavers too (me, for one). As Paul said above, if you end up in the “hate it” camp you will have ZERO trouble finding someone to sell/trade it to on the forums. Tabac has a huge loyal and passionate fan base… with good reason. This is one of those soaps every wet shaver needs to at least try.
Larry McCready – December 13, 2015:
I am relatively new to wet shaving. I have some of the best creams and soaps – Castle and Forbes, Le Pere Lucien, and Barrister and Mann.
I keep going back to Tabac. I have sensitive skin, and Tabac offers more protection, hands down, than the others. It lathers very easily, and is rich and creamy. The scent I love because of its sweet tobacco smell.
I got the ceramic bowl, and I think a bowl would last at least a year with daily use. A must try!
Not that bad
