Honing

I’ve been sharpening (honing) straight razors since 2009, and have honed well over 2000 blades. Mail in honing service is available, with turnaround times typically 7-14 business days.

NOTE:  I do not sharpen the following types of razors:  Current production Fromm, Gierson & Forstoff, Kreigar, Gold Dollar, Mehaz, Master, Selective, anything made in Pakistan or China.

In addition I do not hone razors that have active rust on them!  If your razor has spots of red colored corrosion or rust, I cannot hone them.

To have your razor professionally honed via mail, the process is simple.  Package your razor, a completed PDF form (linked below), and payment (if applicable) in proper packaging, and mail to:

Maggard Razors, LLC
124 S. Winter St. Adrian, MI 49221
United States of America

Razor will be honed, and returned to you as quickly as possible.  I generally use a Chosera 1000 grit stone to set bevels, and follow it up with Coticules and Thuringian finishers.

Fee Table (revised 3/27/14):

Andrew, for honing service you don’t need to pay up front. I will send you a paypal invoice when the razors are finished. Just print the honing service packing slip on this page and send them out!! Thanks!

Does your service include a stropping to the honing process?

  7. Brad January 8, 2014 at 9:47 pm #

    Kyle,

Yes, it does – the first shave you will not need to strop – but, just keep in mind, every shave thereafter will require stropping!

    Thanks!

Brad. How much more would it cost to remove a frown

  9. Brad January 22, 2014 at 8:19 pm #

John, entirely depends on how bad the frown is. Anywhere from $6 to 15.

Hi I was wondering if you had the tooling to take a blank to a full hollow razor, and them of course hone the edge. If so please provide an estimate

    Thanks.

    Hey Brad!

I’m about to receive my first ever straight razor, a restored JR Torrey, 5/8th’s half hollow with a barber’s notch that I want honed. In regards to the price and because it’s a half hollow, would it be $14 or still $28?

    Thanks!
