Product Description

Barrister’s Reserve® Fern is based on a combination of oakmoss, lavender, and tonka, and is the ultimate classic men’s scent. Originally derived from a legendary fragrance not made for 60 years, Fern is dapper in ways that never, ever go out of style.

  • The ultimate scent for the discerning gentleman, this is the one that started it all.
  • Incredibly creamy, dense lather
  • Superlative slickness
  • Excellent post-shave feel

Directions for Use: Wet your shaving brush well, then swirl it around the jar for about 25 swirls or until a rich, creamy lather is formed. Continue building the lather by adding water (lots of it) and swirling your brush either on your face or in a lathering bowl. Shave, rinse, and spend your day feeling great.

Note: This soap is very soft and may be easy to overload. If the lather seems thin or glue-like, continue to add water until a dense, creamy lather forms.

This B&M soap lathers beautifully in my hard water — must be the Reserve soap base. I’ve tried it with a Maggard’s synthetic brush and it produces a thick, slick lather. It can use a lot of water and multiple passes with one brush load are easy. Better in hard water than some famous old-time soaps. By the way, I got this item very fast — 3 days halfway across the country.

Love this soap, it’s a bright and clean scent. Great for spring and summer. The soap lathers easily and I have been quite impressed with the performance on this base. This is my first from the B&M reserve line and I will probably get another puck because the performance is top notch. We have pretty soft water from where I’m at so I can get a pretty good lather with most soaps but this just shines with the water we have here.

I wouldn’t really say this is a foresty scent it has more of a traditional soap scent. A friend said it smelled a little like irish spring body soap and comparing the two I do get those notes but fern is much more light and less intense. Which I like because it’s not overpowering you get just enough scent that you notice it but it doesn’t stay on you.

Initially, I found it challenging to lather but I’ve since discovered the Marco Method and that works great for this soap.

It does take a lot of water but the resulting lather is slick and has a great post-shave. Residual slickness is good and makes touch-up passes a lot easier.

The scent is a lot soapier and more powdery than I expected (I’ve never been near a bottle of Fougere Royale) but I find it to be a great scent for mornings. Very refreshing.

    I am so stunned!
I am not fan of their glissant soaps, cause with my water they are not very slick.
    But this formula… Oh my…
really easy to lather, tons of slickness, even the residual slickness is amazing.
You can have your second pass without adding lather at all!
I really like the scent too. It a cologne type fougere.
It literally make your blades sharper.
Just give it the ammount of water it needs, cause it is very thirsty.
What is works for me, is to add water directly in the tub when loading the brush.
Tested with premium badgers, and synthetics, and works really well with both of them!

Barrister’s Reserve Fern is a great scent and the soap is very slick and lathers easily. I don’t like the stringy consistency of it while lathering, though. Reserve is very good but I prefer the Glissant soaps from B&M.
