Product Description

Based on one of the oldest forms of perfume, Cologne Russe is a throwback to a scent created by the House of Guerlain for the Russian royal family and discontinued in the early twentieth century.

We blend lemon, bergamot, petitgrain, and herbs with violet, rose, bay, and amber to produce a rich, beautifully fresh scent derived from the colognes of old. The scent is distinctly warmer than most other cologne-type fragrances, owing largely to its inclusion of castoreum, benzoin, and vanilla. Clean and elegant without the aloofness of some other scents, Cologne Russe is the perfect way to brighten your morning.

Net wt. 3.5 fl oz., Made in the USA

I really don’t get the hype surrounding this one. I washed it off my face 5 minutes after the initial application and threw the rest in the trash. If I had gone nose deaf and were to rate this aftershave on its astringent properties alone, I’d rate it as OK. It does what it’s supposed to do with moderate efficiency but it’s nothing special. The scent however, pushes the rating down further to somewhere above poor but less than OK. It smells like a recipe for a Thanksgiving cranberry sauce dish; the kind that includes chopped oranges, orange zest, cinnamon and bay leaves.

Kudos to Barrister & Mann for their originality and for producing something other than their take on yet another sandalwood, barbershop or other run-of-the-mill, ubiquitous scent. I appreciate when businesses take the path less traveled in order to offer something different, even if that means assuming more risk. However, despite this and the fact that plenty of people out there seem to enjoy Cologne Russe, it unfortunately has to be a hard pass for me.

This aftershave could be the best bear mace ever invented.

I really want to love this aftershave, but right now I just appreciate it. Great scent, dies down to a warm, sweet vanilla scent type scent with a hint of lemon. Only thing that prevails this from being perfect is the lasting power. I hope B&M reformulate their aftershaves to act as a cologne as well.

Aroma gentle and pleasant. This is one of the most successful fragrances. Very good effect on the skin. This is a great aftershave!

Similar tp Fougere Classique, this aftershave splash has a distinctive smell to it, not copied from some other male fragrance as are most other splashes. This one is unique, having a sweet warm tone to it. It goes well with any Oriental male fragrance and works well with most chypres. If you want a sharper more lavender based smell, the Fougere Classique might be more your thing. For B&M soaps, this matches up well with Fireside, Lavanille, Roam, Leviathan, and Rhapsody.

Also unlike most alcohol based splashes, B&M features botanical and synthetic ingredients mixed in that will soothe, moisturized and reduce redness. This is more than just menthol! (Actually, there is no menthol in here at all, so the only folks that may be unhappy with this product are those that want menthol cooling,. There is witch hazel though, which compensates to some degree…)

If you already have a fragrance collection and want something original rather than something copied from a pricier formula from a perfume house, B&M offers some of the most distinctive and unique scents around in splashes. The originality of the scent, the quality ingredients used, and the actual medicinal effects from the add-ins make this worth the added cost over something like Fine

This is my favorite aftershave. It opens a bit sweet, but then dries down to a warm vanilla type scent to my nose. I find it matches well with any floral, and most other soaps. It lasts over half a day for me – I still get a whiff over five hours later.
