I find this brush to be on the small side and it is very stiff out of the box. It feels a lot like an unbroken boar brush. I am still working on it to get it to the point where I can face lather without wiping off the soap. I think it needs more break-in time. The tips are reasonably soft and it whips up a decent lather in my bowl, but my Maggard 24mm synthetic ( does a better job for me and it is a little softer on my face to boot. Since, it is small, I’ll probably take it on the road with me. Not to say this is a bad brush; it isn’t. It’s just that I have others, including a natural boar brush, that foam up in 3 swirls and feel a little less scratchy.

The reviews already posted really say it all. I do not have a large collection of shaving brushes, but this is my favorite among the few that I own. It is soft, feels very pleasant on the face, with no scratchiness or “scrubby” feeling, and I find it works very well for face-lathering. The handle in which the knot is mounted is very handsome, with a faux-marble look and including the British-style “By Appointment . . . ” logo — very classy. The knot itself is nicely colored to resemble a fine badger brush. Well worth its price.

Remarkable brush that feels great with very soft tips right out of the box, but still has a nice springy backbone that lets it handle most soaps just fine. The biggest surprise for me was just how much water this synthetic beauty can hold, definitely more than I actually needed for the Maggard’s shaving soap. Once I started to get a grip on the water issue I found it easy to whip up more than enough nice thick lather for 3+ passes. I can see this being a great brush for both men and women.

I do find it just a tad reluctant to release all that good lather to my face (which may well be the fault of my own technique since I’m still quite new to wet shaving) but I can solve that easily enough by gently squeezing the lather out to the end of the brush. I personally find it just a bit bigger than I might ideally like but that is no fault of this brush as it is by no means a huge brush..small enough to make a good travel brush but big enough for daily use with a lather bowl. I just have a relatively small face and am discovering I like face lathering far more than I had expected I would (you never know until you try things!). I plan to pick up an inexpensive very small boar brush to alternate with this one on days I want to face lather rather than bowl lather.

This is a GREAT little brush. I wanted a synthetic brush for traveling but find myself reaching for the Kent even when I am at home. Hits the sweet spot for me with just the right amount of backbone and a smooth soft face feel.

Wonderful brush with silky softness and just a hint of backbone. Very similar to the Plisson brush made for Le occitane.

I’d always been skeptical of the idea that synthetic brushes need a “break-in” period but this guy just kept getting better and better and better. Now that it’s about where it wants to be, I cannot recommend it too highly. Soft tips and just the right backbone make it a delight to use. Use this brush for a while and you’ll be tempted to get a nice display case for everyone to admire all your expensive silvertips. They’ll be safe there because this will be the brush that you actually use.
