Product Description

Myrkviðr is pronounced “mirk vitter” and is Old Norse for Dark Forest.

This soap came about as a result of a request for a custom soap from the /r/wet_shavers subreddit, and both the scent and the name were the result of popular votes on that subreddit.

This soap is the first to use a new soap formula from The Los Angeles Shaving Soap Company which includes avocado oil and cocoa butter, and substitutes beer for water. The result is a nice light brown soap with an excellent thick lather, and an excellent post-shave feel.

The ingredients and essential oils in this soap combine to provide a subtle, warm, earthy, almost spicecakey scent. As I described the scent elsewhere, it’s almost “what you might expect if a forest gnome invited you for a holiday dinner – quiet, kind of earthy, with some hints of spice”

Got the sample size and tried it initially. The first time I used the soap I didn’t honestly know what to think…initial impression in the container was stale beer scent but great lather and slickness with more than adequate cushion. The next few times I used the soap I came to appreciate the scent produced with lathering…warm early morning in fall forest smell like the opening day walk to your deer stand in mid November. It actually amazed me just how similar the smell of this soap was to that scent produced by nature that I love so much. I was hooked and bought the whole container. I continue to be impressed with this soap. Please don’t focus on the initial container scent and let it “bloom” if your an outdoorsman you will love this one!

Intoxicating Hoppy-Beer like sent. Lather Cushion and post shave second to none. At first I did not know if I liked the scent but after several uses it is now in my rotation of favorites. Yes Intoxicating.

I agree with the Jeckyll &Hyde comparrison. It smelled like beer and whiskey pour on a bar left for the morning crew to clean up, however if that where it, this soap would not be rated nearly as high as it is. Lathering was a breeze and the pay off and reward was a soft lather that reminded me of beer bread and biscuts with a healthy dose of spice. In conclusion don’t let the foward scent fool you this is a strong contender that has earned its praise and place in my and mant peoples rotations

This scent of this soap in my opinion is like Jeckyll and Hyde. Before lathering, it’s very yeasty and beer like. It nearly turned me off using it altogether. After lathering however, I was very glad I stuck with this soap as this is where the spicy, caky scent comes out. Ginger and cinnamon biscuits. Delicious!

The lather is easy to whip up and is up there with the best of them. Slick, full of cushion and left my skin feeling soft afterwards too.

Myrkvior smells amazing! A very manly aroma of whiskey (not too strong) and woodsy scents. The soap gave a nice cushion while shaving and I suffered no razor burn. The soap rinsed off easily and did not clog my DE razor. I will definitely be keeping this soap in my rotation. If you are looking for something different, I highly recommend this offering from LA Shaving Soap Co. Money well spent, in my humble opinion.

Outperforms Barrister and Mann? Never thought I would utter those words, but I had zero sting after 3 passes with my alum block. First time that’s ever happened. Oh and I love beer. Don’t hesitate, just get it.

My current #1 soap. Great performance (pretty much the best I’ve used) with a great scent and a wonderful post-shave feel. Everyone should buy this soap immediately.

Great scent, and as always incredible lather. John was really helpful with choosing a name and a scent. He was also a good sport about allowing us to do this in the first place! Maggard also never disappoints with their service
