Product Description

“Cuir et Épices” is the first scent exclusive to our new premium soap base.  It is a blend of leather, tobacco flower, cedar, anise, oakmoss, and patchouli. This scent is unique unto itself and somewhat difficult to describe. The beta feedback was all over the place, but we think the closest to capturing the scent was:

This is what I imagine John Wayne’s kitchen smelling like – soft leather, vaguely appley, with a twist of some kind of baking spice.

However, this is absolutely not a gourmand scent, so don’t let the “appley” or “baking spice” fool you. We would rate this scent as neutral tending toward masculine.

Our new soap base features bison tallow (rendered from 100% grassfed bison kidney fat) and lanolin, proudly casting aside the vegan title and embracing old world traditions with an American twist.

The addition of bison tallow imparts even more slickness to our already slick soap, and combined with the emollient properties of lanolin provide a dense, silky lather and peerless post-shave experience.

But we didn’t stop there.  Our new aftershave performs so well that we added the same four hand-selected botanicals from our aftershave to our soap – sea buckthorn, burdock root, white willow bark, and grape seed.  These botanicals are not a gimmick – while we can’t make any specific claims about them without having to deal with the FDA, we can say that this soap is extremely forgiving of poor technique.

We even made it softer than our vegan soap formula, slightly harder than a croap, so even the floppiest brush can load with ease.

I adore the scent and the performance is top notch. Highly protective,
very good slickness and stellar post-shave.

This is my favorite soap I’ve used thus far. Great lather, great slickness, and it’s decently soft, so it’s easy to load. Face feels like a million bucks after the shave. The scent is strong enough to have some staying power, but it’s not overpowering at all. Smells kind of like drinking apple cider while sitting on a leather couch, if that makes any sense. Spicy, sweet, leathery. My girlfriend loves when I use it too, and that’s what really matters.

Excellent soap, the smell is simply stunning, the foam is wonderful, the razor slides very easily

I can’t believe I am just not getting around to a review on this soap. The scent is very unique. What others have mentioned is true: leather and spices, perhaps sweetness. It comes together in a very lovely way. Performance of course is typical of the brand: very nourishing and your skin will feel very soft afterwards. Recommended.

I’ve yet to use a shaving soap that didn’t do what its supposed to do. Arko, Porasso, MWF, Stirling, etc.
But this soap…It just leaves my face feeling so damn good. Nice, smooth, soft. Produces an great lather, cushions and protects. Look, you can get a good shave with about any soap made for shaving. But if you want to give yourself a treat, a deserved indulgence, this soap will fit the bill.

    :

One of my favorite scents from L&L. (The other is Puzzle). Excellent performance. Unique scent. I happen to enjoy it but it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. One thing I have noticed about L&L soaps: they have an uneven fill line on the container. I’m not suggesting that it is short the advertised amount, but it certainly looks different than the fill lines in other artisans offerings.

This is a top notch performer. As the description notes, the scent is tough to describe. I get leather and spices, but neither very strong… I’d like it more intense, if anything.
The lather is easily top 5 quality. Very easy to make and plenty of slickness and a nice moisturized after shave feel.
I can’t tell if the bison tallow makes any difference, but the soap is excellent in any event.
