So I’ve been using this brush for a good little while, and I’m honestly perplexed.

The thickness and softness of this brush is on-par with my Simpson Duke 2. It whips up gigantic mountains of dense slick lather just as well and just as effortlessly as any other brush in my rotation (my PJ2 has been a benchwarmer for a while, it may need to be put out to pasture).

This brush has great backbone, some may think it has too much. It’s always a bit jarring watching the knot splay out against my face, and I need to remind myself that this is a synthetic knot, so it doesn’t really matter if the individual bristles splay awkwardly: they’re plastic, so let them do what they do. This knot has shed maybe two hairs in the whole long while I’ve had it, which is better than any animal hair brush I have ever used.

The two areas where this lags towards the back of the pack is handle shape and heat retention, which for a brush this inexpensive are miniscule prices to pay. Heat retention is an easy issue to work around: just leave your lather a little on the dryer side and dip the bristles back into the hot water. It’s actually a really nice little treat, especially on colder days. The handle is a very common shape, and since brush handles are highly individual this is a personal preference rather than an objective one. My personal handle preferences lean more towards Maggard’s two-piece blue and white handle.

First brush and first synthetic brush I have bought but I am really pleased with the product. Feels very soft on the face and seems to be of a very good build quality, highly recommend.

Great handle! Great backbone! Great lather-maker! Great face-feel! Great price! What else could one want for? Thanks Maggard Razors! Keep the great products coming!

Wow. My first introduction to synthetics and I’m blown away. Lathering is so much easier and I use so much less soap than I did with my boar brush. It’s insane. I’m not going back to natural.

I exclusively bowl lather and it’s just a dream to use this brush. The hairs are very nicely dyed for a natural look. While the handle is solid, I do wish they offered a marble white and black version, but I’m nitpicking. Unbeatable for the price; this thing is huge and incredibly soft.

Great brush! I use it to face lather and it’s very soft, but still with a good backbone. Good with soaps and creams, it makes a lot of lather very quickly and easily. I highly recommend this brush!

I keep this brush at my Girlfriends place as well as a couple Maggard razors(MR1 and the MR2) for the emergency shave. This bad boy works the lather up with a quickness! Soft and comfortable. And holds a lot of lather. Perfect for the nice quick shave.

In short- Buy this brush and don’t think twice about it. It’s super soft, but the bristles are stiff enough that they don’t fall over. Great brush!

I’ve heard very good things about this brush and decided to give it a try. I have 3 badger, 2 boar and 2 synthetic brushes, some of which cost over 100$ and this brush is almost as good if not better than them. Although I’ve had only 2 shaves with this brush so far, I don’t think im going to use any of my other brushes for a while. The brush have very soft tips and a nice backbone and it performs fantastic. If you are a beginner and you are looking for good brush for a decent price – look no further. I wish I had found this brush sooner!

This was my first brush and I didn’t realize at the time how spoiled Maggard made me. I use it to effortlessly lather up Mitchell’s Wool Fat shaving soap, which is considered one of the hardest to lather. It has good water retention and the bristles are just stiff enough to lather up nice.

This brush easily equals brushes 4-5 times the price. $12 and really sensible UK shipping means I’ll be getting more. Thanks

Well, I had to re review this brush…
Like maggards said there are some loose hairs in the brush from the manufacturer.
My brush shed about a dozen hairs overall the first few uses, but now has completely stopped. Maggards shaving brush is now a 5 star 10/10 brush. Absolutely the best brush you can buy for the money. I wish I knew about these a couple years back when I got into shaving.

the only other synthetic I can compare this brush to is the “satin tip” the purest which is my go to brush.
The maggard’s brush IS a little softer than the sating tip.
However I give the maggard’s brush a 4 out of 5 because unlike the Satin Tip, I have no even used the maggard’s brush yet and it has already shed 4 hairs just in feeling the brush with my hands, however the Satin Tip brush shed one half sized hair ONCE.
The shedding is the number one reason I go for synthetics, hopefully this maggard’s brush will not continue to shed… if it stays shed free, it will move up to 5 stars in my book!

Response from Maggard: Max, these brushes come straight from the manufacturer, so there will typically be a few hairs loose in the knots from manufacturing.

    Just wow!
I’ve been using a nice badger brush for some time. My son sent me this as a gift after reading the many positive reviews on B&B. Since it was a gift I had no idea what I was using. I proceeded to use it as my other brush and found myself flooded with water flowing off my face, while trying to create lather on my face. What the heck?
On second attempt I gave it a good hard flick of the wrist to get rid of most of the excess water and proceeded to make some of the silkiest, smooth, creamy lather I’ve ever made. I was literally shocked and if I didn’t know otherwise I’d think I was using different soap. I’m currently trying the Van Hagen luxury soap which is wonderful with this brush, using very little water and VERY little soap now,
Needless to say the second shock, of much higher voltage, came when I inquired of my son, what brush this was? Synthetic? $12.00?!?
You guys have hit this one out of the park. Great job, cheers!

WOW!! I couldn’t wait to get home today to open my package and try this brush. It did not disappoint! Super soft and plenty of splay, while still maintaining a nice backbone. I’m not one for a lot of backbone, and this is perfect. This thing is a lathering monster. I’m not sure I’ll ever go back to a boat after this. Buy one, or two, you won’t regret it.

This synthetic brush is softer than silvertip, yet falls between best badger and pure badger in backbone. It lathers better with creams and soft soaps than hard pucks, but it face lathers perfectly! It does not hold as much water as a comparative badger brush, but with a 24mm knot there is still sufficient water capacity to lather well. Handle is comfortable and this brush did not shed at all! I still wouldn’t retire my silvertip brush, but I would heartily recommend this synthetic brush to anyone seeking a less expensive alternative.

This is my first synthetic shaving brush, though I do have a sizable collection of both badger and boar brushes to compare this to.

I was intrigued by the idea of trying a synthetic shaving brush, and after finding out that Maggard Razors had just recently released these brushes, I looked them over with great interest. I’m a member of Badger & Blade, so I took some time reading reviews by members there before purchasing one for myself. I read that many compared it to a brush offered by another vendor, but this one was cheaper and came from a vendor that I trust and enjoy doing business with, whereas the other vendor was less than honest in the past.

I ended up ordering two brushes, the black handle that I’m reviewing of 24mm for myself, and the purple handle for my fiancée’s daughter. I’ve used mine twice now, and I couldn’t be happier. It hasn’t lost a single hair, has more backbone than my badger brushes possess, but is still soft and luxurious enough that it compares to my Semogue Owners Club boar and my Semogue 1305 brushes the most. The ability to create lather in mere moments impressed me straightway, and though it is soft against the face, there is enough scrub to exfoliate the skin as a shaving brush should. The tips almost remind me of my silvertip brush, but with none of the flop that many find with that grade of badger hair. The handle has weight to it which is nice, without feeling heavy in the hand. It sits comfortably in the palm, and sets well in my Colonel Conk razor and brush stand. I honestly couldn’t be happier with this brush. It will be seeing more use in my brush rotation than my badgers do.

In closing, if you’re interested in a synthetic shaving brush that performs with brilliance the duty that wet shavers desire and won’t be overly expensive, I heartily recommend this brush. If you are one that has a collection of shaving brushes as I do and would like to add a wonderful, reliable performer to your rotation, again I recommend this brush without hesitation. And finally, should you be looking for a brush that is not animal hair for whatever reason, be it animal cruelty concerns, allergies, etc then this brush I do suggest with pride, knowing that it won’t fail you, and with proper care will give you years of flawless service. You’ll quickly find that this brush will be like an old friend that you’re happy to see and spend time with.

This is my first synthetic brush and I have to admit it is the softest brush I have ever used. What a great product at a great price and as usual a great service from Maggard Razors (thanks Casie)

Hi fellow wet shavers I bought my brush on E-Bay I was looking to get my first synthetic brush. I’m so glad I found this one, because it is such a fantastic brush. Just as soft as a silver tip with the backbone of a bore. I also like the handle style and the way the Maggard logo is on the bottom of the handle that way it’s face up when you put it on your brush stand. Bottom line is this if you are a long time vet wet shaver or a new wet shaver and you been thinking of trying a synthetic brush you would be hard pressed not to give this one a try.

Thank you, Brad and Casie for carrying this brush!! Fantastic brush! and a Great value! Synthetics have a place and a well deserved reputation for softness and quick drying. This brush is another great example.

The appearance of the brush was very nice, extremely soft fibers. The handle is plastic, but still nice quality.

Loading was a breeze. The brush has a middle of the road backbone, not being very floppy like the plisson, and not to hard like a boar.

Face lathering was even better. I was able to add copious amounts of water to create an insane lather. Granted, I used P160, but it was the best lather i’ve had in a while.

Overall, this is an amazing brush for the price. I can definitely see myself ordering many more synthetics in the future.

Just tried this brush for the first time today and all I can say is wow!!! Great performance and super soft on my head and face. I am in the military and have to shave everyday and your products are making me have a great wet shaving experience. At this price I can’t be beat by any other synthetic brush out there. Thank you Maggard razors for a great quality brush and you’re service is excellent. Thank you again Norman.
