Product Description

Orange Menthol is fragranced with 100% essential oils, and contains menthol crystals for a light cooling effect.  The sweet orange smell is balanced well with the cool menthol, for a wonderful, cool, sweet, citrus experience. We purposely kept the menthol low on this soap. If you are expecting something that will freeze your face off ,this is not it.

Our soaps now ship in high quality thick-walled PETG jars, 100mm diameter (approx 4″), and are a slim 1.5″ tall with lid .   The jars are made in the USA!

Our soaps are made through the hot process.  Their consistency is a soft soap, similar to an Italian soft soap.   The jar opening is nice and big for all sorts of brushes, big and small.

Our soap is made by Maria Arman, a soap maker and potter from Michigan.  Check out her website at ttffcraft.com

    :

I love this soap. I started wet shaving about 2 years ago and have been trying different soaps and creams recently, trying to find what I like, and my skin likes best. This was wonderful. It has a great orange aroma. Not an artificial orange smell, but a smell of making your own orange juice. It does have a mild to mild-medium menthol feel, but not overly strong. The best part about this soap I found was how well it glides. I’ve had issues with other soaps and creams that either dried out/evaporated on my face too quickly, or did not have a good glide to them. I have sensitive skin and I was able to do 3 passes for a BBS shave and no irritation. This soap is a winner to me.

Lovely fragrance. Very good protection. NO Menthol! If you’re buying this Because of the menthol? Please look elsewhere!

One of the best smells ever. It’s like swimming in a pool of orange cream. 😀

    :

I used to just use the “cheapo” soaps from amazon as I considered them “good enough”. This stuff lathers so well and the orange smells great. The soaps I’ve used before never lathered like this so I never realized how much of a different it makes. I don’t see myself going back to those other soaps. And I enjoy how the orange lingers for some time afterwards.

I’m very new to wet shaving so take this review with all required grains of salt.
This soap smells great, real orange scent with just a little background menthol chill. I have had absolutely no trouble lathering it and the slickness has been great everytime. I won’t comment on the resulting shaves because I’m still trying to work out the best ways too shave with my growth patterns but this soap is as good as any I have tried, which is about 6 so far. I have caught the acquisition bug and I will definitely be buying Maggard products in the future. The witch hazel aftershave splash is great also. That’s when I really feel the refreshing menthol.

    :

There are a lot of amazing shaving soaps on the market. But, the two Maggard soaps I’ve tried so far transport you to a mystical realm. That is probably what people are hoping for when they purchase a fancy British cream, to be transported to 1890s London with Sherlock Holmes and stuff. They’re hoping for something, if they spend $35 on a few ounces of shaving cream!

So, Maria Arman and Through the Fire Fine Craft, who makes soaps for the Maggard line has done that, almost like these soaps are made with special effects, like the first STAR WARS film.

But, they do it in different ways. This one has a nice smell, but it is the careful, intelligent use of Menthol, which was probably tested many times, that creates the special effect in this one, not the smell. I found the Vostok and Key Lime from Queen Charlotte to be too powerful. I hope I’m not doing anything wrong by mentioning other companies. I thought the Queen Charlotte one was too powerful, almost painful. I couldn’t keep it on my face or use it, unless I was mixing it with another soap to weakne its power.

The HTGAM soaps probably try hard to create special effects, too, but somehow they don’t succeed. Not like the two Maggard soaps I’ve tried so far. The Tobacco and Leather does so based on smell, with a smell that lingers into the next day. So, if you try these and like these, it makes sense to go to the ‘Through the Fire Fine Craft’ website and try her creations, too.

My search is over. After trying many different shave soaps, I have now found my favorite. With just a few swirls in the unique shaped jar with my Maggard brush, I have a huge amount of fluffy lather for multiple passes. The smell of oranges fills the bathroom and reminds me of my trip to Seville, Spain were orange trees lined the streets.
If you like the smell of fresh cut oranges, this is your soap.

    :

First off, both Maggard soaps that I have tried build up a top quality lather with very little effort. I love citrus scents so this was a no-brainer for me, especially for the price. This is the first mentholated soap that I’ve used so I don’t know how it stacks up to others, but it was just right for me. Cooled my face gently and provided a great shaving experience. I will gladly purchase again.

    :

Unbelievable. I thought it couldn’t get better than London Barbershop but I think it totally did. The scent is crazy good. It smells identical to an orange creamsicle. The lather is like their other soaps so expect good slickness, cushion and ease of loading and building lather. The menthol is there but it’s not crazy cold. Overall, an excellent soap.

    :

Excellent scent and soap. I have been a wet shaver for two years and just started buying from Maggard. I used the orange menthol for the first time the other night… what a great experience!! Maybe the best shave I have ever experienced…looking forward to purchasing more products from this great artisan soap maker.

    :

Excellent soap! I’ve been looking for something with the slickness of soap and the creamy, cushiony lather of a cream and I’ve found it! And it was so easy to lather too. Made lots of slick, creamy, and thick (but not too thick) lather. And it didn’t disintegrate either, which is a problem I have with some soaps due to hard water. And the scent is simply wonderful! It’s a very bright and sweet orange aroma with just a little bit of menthol for a cooling effect. Perfect on a hot summer day. And I like the light amount of menthol they used. Just enough in my opinion. This soap has definitely found a place in my shave routine. Gonna have to try the other scents too. Definitely a winner!

    :

I like this soap. I get a good, slick lather out of it, and the orange scent is quite nice. Still, I have a complaint.

“Orange Menthol.” It’s right there in the name: menthol. I love the orange, but I doubt it’s ever been in the same state as menthol.

Would I buy it again? Probably. Would I recommend it? Only as “orange.” Can I say it lives up to its name? Sadly, no.

    :

This soap is amazing. 10 – 15 seconds of loading my badger, and it explodes with volumes of thick lather more then sufficient for 4 complete passes. Fantastic for face lathering. This soap has terrific lubricity and cushioning, allowing for a close, clean, comfortable shave every time. The scent is perfectly balanced, giving off a clean, fresh aroma, without being overbearing, though if the label didn’t mention menthol, I would never have guessed it was present.
I will be ordering this again, as this takes a top tier in my rotation.
Additionally, the service presented by the folks at Maggard’s is unlike any other large on-line website. It’s a genuine pleasure dealing with everyone there..

    :

Being a Florida native nothing beats the smell of citrus or a sliced open orange. That is exactly what this soap smells like. The menthol is there but not overly present. It could almost use more if you asked me. I like to burn. But that’s my opinion and it does not take away from the fact that this is an EXCELLENT soap. Great lather, great slickness, great sheen, lasts for a complete pass and we’ve already talked about the fragrance. It comes in a great plastic tub with a screw on top that makes it easy to load up your brush. I think it’s a 5oz tub that’s filled with 4ozs of soft soap. When I want to wake up and start my day off in a vacation/paradise kind of mood cause that’s where I’m from, I shave with my Orange Menthol. Then, I feel guilty cause I’ve used some. 🙂 😉 Again, EXCELLENT SOAP.

    :

Nice bright orange and menthol scent, if you like a mellow menthol sensation, this should be just right, a great summer soap. Lathered up great with the right amount of product, which isn’t much. Great thick protective lather, as is my experience with alI of Maggard’s soaps. I probably won’t be buying this again, as I prefer stronger menthol, but there’s no knocking this excellent blend.

  16. 5 out of 5

    :

A very nicely orange scented soft soap. The lather is thick and cushy and gives plenty of slickness. They’re not lying when they say it’s only lightly mentholated, it only gives a very light cooling sensation; much less than Proraso green.

Received this as a free soap with my DE Razor and wow I was not expecting this great of a soap. Great lather, Awesome slickness and that orange smell….WOW This is a great soap and will definitely be in my rotation for a long time to come

    :

I think Maggard soaps perform very well and similar to Razo-Rock soaps. Often, in the Wet Shave Community, RR soaps were praised for their wonderful performance and working man’s budget. Here is the kicker, Maggard gives you 5 ounces compared to 4.2 ounces from RR; more soap less price; including the shipping cost. You can not beat Maggard soap for performance, quality, and price.

    :

Nothing wrong with this soap. Just enough menthol to let you know it is in there. Could feel it tingling on my face. Nice. Nothing wrong with the slip on the skin either. I had no problem getting this soap to lather in my Captains Choice Lathering Bowl. The orange scent is great also. Goes together well with Captains Choice Lime aftershave. I’ll be back for the Lilac later. Your soap maker knows what they are doing for sure. Get ya some!

I bloomed this soap while I was in the shower and wow the sent was amazing! Oranges filled the room.
Next I lathered it . This soap made mounds of fluffy pillow like lather . The shave was wonderful. A zen like
Experience! And as always the maggard sales and shipping is so fast. This is such a great value !
    Thank you Maggard

    :

This soap is extremely easy to lather. The orange scent is very natural and I can’t imagine it offending anyone. The shaves are slick and smooth. If I have one small qualm, it does not do much in the moisturizing category. It doesn’t dry out your face but leaves you with a feeling you need to use a moisturizer. The menthol in this soap is almost nonexistent so if you’re a menthol junkie, you might be disappointed. This is a perfect soap for the beginner as its so easy to create a thick lather. It’s also a great value in the artisan world.

Boom! That’s what my lather bowl looked like when I finally got the new Simpson brush working with my favorite soap. This soap is amazing and at an amazing price. I know it all sounds like hyperbole but it really is that good and at such a great price.

I am a big sucker for anything orange scented so when I saw this I jumped at the chance to order it. The second I opened the jar I knew I was going to love it. It smelled like fresh oranges! It worked up a lather with very little effort and the shave was great! The menthol is a great touch. Just enough to let you know it’s there without making your eyes water. Very refreshing soap!

I’m relatively new to DE shaving so I don’t have a lot to compare to but thie high ratings this soap recieved gave me confidence in my purchase. This soap didn’t disappoint. Nice packaging, lots of thick later, easy to load, decent slickness and a fantastic scent. I’m a big fan of citrus scents and this is very pleasing. The menthol aspect is very mild and not overwhelming which I also like

    :

Amazing soap! Shaved with it this morning and it gave me one of my best shaves! This soap has cushion, glide, natural smelling scent and just a perfect amount of menthol for me. The post shave was so good that I didn’t have to use a balm, and that’s unheard of with my skin. Just a little witch hazel and I was out the door. I might just buy more before its gone just in case.

It’s been two weeks and I really enjoy this soap, lathers well, maintains well and the orange scent is awesome! I only wish that it had more menthol.

I will order this again, awesome summer/winter shave soap!

Fantastic soft soap! I bought a sample of all The Maggard Razor’s soaps, as soon as I finished them the first thing I did was buy the full size Orange Mental. Great smell and slick creamy soap. This is now my number one soap. Also, Maggard Razor’s has the absolute best service ever! Thank you.

This stuff is awesome! I cant get enough of the smell.

    :

This is some fantastic stuff. Honestly it’s like putting a fresh orange grove to your face. It shaves nicely and keeps my face feeling great. The only drawback I found is that I felt little to no menthol at all on my face. If you are in the mood for a chilling effect you should probably look elsewhere. That being said, if you are scared of the menthol, I would not be. It’s great for a welcoming Spring day. Highly recommend.

    :

I actually picked up a tub of this soap in a trade on a popular shaving forum, and I am SOOOO glad that I did! Scent is absolutely oustanding and spot on orange peel. Very fresh. Performance is on par with soaps and creams that are MUCH more expensive, and the post shave feel is excellent. My experience with Orange Menthol prodded me to order a tub of the Limes and Bergamot, which should arrive in a few days! Can’t wait! I was also really impressed with the PERSONAL e-mail from Casie telling me that they were preparing my order and a shipping confirmation shortly thereafter. Really rare to have that kind of thing nowadays!

    :

At the risk of sounding like a “homer”, Maggard shave soaps have consistently been my favorites. The orange menthol is no exception. Incredible fresh orange aroma, menthol is very subtle, but is noticed once you lather your beard. Thick, rich lather allows my razor to almost float across my beard.

Well I took the drive out to Adrian to meet these fine people and boy am I glad I did! This was only one of the items I bought while there. This Orange Menthol soap is great. It lathered easily and very well. One of the best soaps I have ever used. It has a great Orange scent but not to much Menthol, but that was ok cause I bought it for the orange, not the menthol. I am very pleased with my trip to Adrian this shop is now gonna be my go to for whenever I need a wet shaving product. They are close to home and very hard working, and great people. Thanks so much!

A winner. Great lather, great scent. I didn’t feel the razor. This was from the sample so I guess this will go on the list.

Ladies and gentlemen… Get out your wallets and throw money at your computer until this shaving cream arrives at your door. This is simply a wonderful example of shaving cream. Excellent scent (I truly considered eating it…), great lather with very little effort, and very nice protection on my three pass shave.

    :

Another great Maggard product. Lathers up easily and provides a nice and easy shave. The scent is great, if a little on the weak side (which is not bad thing). It smells very natural, like an orange rind. My only minor gripe would be that you can barely feel the menthol, but other than that, a solid product.

    :

Pleasant scent and superb performance. Nice choice of packaging, too. I agree with the other reviewers’ comments and will add that I find that the scent works well under all the aftershaves I have tried. Not a lot of scent remains after rinsing, but what does remain seems to blend well with: Alt Innsbruck, Fine A.B. and Italian Citrus, and Proraso splash. For an Orange Menthol soap, it seems light on the menthol for my liking, which is why all the aftershaves I’ve tried sso far with it are all mentholated. Since menthol is a YMMV thing, I still highly recommend this soap: Five stars, get some!

    :

I received the Orange Menthol today and had a great shave with it. If you’ve tried HTGAM’s Synergy Shaving Soap, you will find that the Maggard soap’s quality of lather rivals it in slickness and cushion. I was very impressed! The scent is absolutely fantastic. It smells like an orange creamsicle/sherbet with a hint of menthol. Tons of citrus-y goodness!

The tub/packaging is top notch and was a really clever idea to allow the suds to remain in the tub rather than creating a mess all over the container and sink area (this is something that the Synergy soap suffers from).

The feel of the lather on the face is very refreshing. Very light menthol that just provides a very cool feeling. The Maggard soaps have jumped up to my top five shaving soaps of all time. I’m excited for my next shave with it and can’t wait to see what new soaps these guys come up with next.

    :

Guise. Gaiz! I just received my Orange Menthol and shaved with it today. The scent right out of the tub is perfect: orange peel with just enough menthol. It’s addicting. The lather production was just perfect. The menthol provided a cool nice shave and wasn’t overbearing.

This is a fantastic summer soap, though no doubt I will be using it throughout the other seasons as well. I can’t wait to see what else the duo comes up with next!

    :

One thing not enough people mention when reviewing this soap is the smell right out of the tub! It’s like rubbing orange peel all over your face and in your nose, in the best way possible. The lather is great and endless, just like many other great artisan soaps, but nothing beats the fresh smell of orange.

  44. 5 out of 5

    :

In general, I’m more of a “cream” guy. For me, creams are easier to lather and take less time. I have very hard water, and don’t have a lot of experience with soaps. With all of that said: I Love This Soap!! The scent is absolutely divine, the container is the perfect size with enough space to properly load my brush in and it leaves a fresh sensation on my skin. It is not a “freezing” menthol to me, but there is plenty of refreshing sensation when I’m done. It does take a bit of time and effort to create a proper lather (as opposed to a cream), but the results are well worth it. I’ve used both an Omega boar and an Omega synthetic brush with this soap an both work well.

I can’t wait to try the other artisan soaps here! Try it – you won’t be disappointed!

    :

I bought this as a sample size; there are so many products for a new DE shaver to try.

Has a bright orange scent, didn’t smell like a menthol product at all. Lathered very easily, used more water then other products to produce a nice thick lather. I don’t think you culd make a bad lather with this.

This combined with Maggards own pre shave oil gave a wonderful slick close shave with no effort required and no burn to speak of.

Ten minutes after the shave that’s when I could feel the menthol cool on my face. Very nice.

    :

Excellent soap. Great lather, pleasant fragrance. Love the oversized jar- makes whipping up a nice lather so much easier. Haven’t used any other soap or cream since I got this one. I will definitely be back for more. And…the service is phenomenal.

  47. 5 out of 5

    :

This is really a very impressive soap. It’s a soft soap that is very easy to load up and lathers up quickly with a bit of water. It has great slickness and cushion and my face felt very protected during a 3 pass shave with my open comb. Additionally, the scent was a good strength and super pleasant and post-shave my face felt nicely hydrated.

  48. 4 out of 5

    :

Very nice, orange scented soap. No issues with making an easy lather or getting a good shave. I was hoping for a lot more menthol though… This is a very, very, lightly mentholated soap. So light I don’t really feel it. I was hoping this would be my perfect citrus \ menthol summer soap and chances are high I’ll still use it, but I’ll have to turn to the Iced Key Lime for the chill I was hoping for.

  49. 5 out of 5

    :

This soap makes a very cushiony lather which is somewhat thirsty. I like a thirsty lather, the soap tends to go farther. I am able to get a 3 pass shave with a minimal amount, it lathers and fluffs up very well. The scent is nice, like orange creamsicles. The menthol is very light. Makes a great shave.

Maggard Razors Artisan Shave Soap – Orange Menthol moves into my shave soap rotation. A+. My Vie Long Horsehair brush with the white acrylic triangular handle lathered fairly easily in the scuttle, lather retained fullness on the face after application, skin protected extremely nicely during the shave, razor glided extremely well during the shave, nice aroma without overpowering this user.
