Product Description

The MR8 was the first Stainless Steel handle razor that Maggard Razors released in August, 2014.   An ultra-heavyweight, this razor weighs in at a whopping 179g with head. The handle is 148g. The finish of the MR8 is a satin matte stainless steel.  It won’t flake or chip like Chrome could over the years. The knurling is accurate and defined.

Quality materials and a great price – it is difficult to go wrong with a Maggard Razors DE. These traditional double edge safety razors are ideal for the beginner, while seasoned wet shavers will appreciate the high quality handles and smooth shaving heads.

Heads: We now offer 4 different heads to choose from. Each comes with its own shaving characteristics.

  1.  The V3 Standard (2): This head is available in Chrome, Gray, or Black Finish. Best for beginners, this head offers a mild-moderate shave with excellent efficiency. Shaves just as well as many of the big name brands with no noticeable difference in quality
  2. The V2 Open Comb: Another great option for beginners, the V2 Open comb shaves nearly identical to the Parker 24C/26C heads. Super comfortable, and super efficient – this heads gives the results of the aggressive razors without any of the harshness.
  3. The V3A Aggressive: This head is available in Gray, or Black Finish. Enthusiasts and those looking for a more aggressive razor to plow through the toughest of beards may opt for the V3A – a highly efficient shaving head that offers plenty of blade exposure. With some time and skill we feel many will enjoy this head. Comes in a beautiful matte gray plating finish.
  4. The Maggard Slant Head: Released in September 2016, our new Slant Razor Head is a great way to try out a slant head design without breaking the bank.

Materials:
Most of the Maggard Razors line come equipped with solid 303 stainless steel handles. The heads of the entire Maggard line are chrome plated cast zinc alloy.

Quality Control:
We have visually inspected every single razor for manufacturing flaws. Many heads we test fit a blade to ensure blade exposure and gap consistency. You won’t find any bubbled up plating or overly rough edges on your new razor. The heads thread smoothly, and on every razor we have shave tested, each one was consistent in shaving from both sides of the blade. We stand behind these razors – so if you find a flaw that affects your shave, simply contact us and we will resolve the issue!

Handle Compatibility:
Our safety razors use standard threading that is compatible with almost all other 3 piece razors (Edwin Jagger, Merkur, Muhle, Gillette, iKon, Above the Tie, just to name a few).

Shave with it, enjoy it, and remember, this is a budget razor! It is cheap enough to buy one for all of your friends and help expand our community. This is the reason we’ve made these available and the reason for their great success!

    :

I received this MR-8 handle today. I paired it with a V-3a dark grey finish. The quality of finish on both pieces surprised me as I keep hearing that these are budget razors. Well I see that many wet shavers buy somewhat pricey name brand razors then replace the handle with a Magger. These are Artisan made and very attractive handles. Putting a V-3a on an MR-8 is like inviting Jason Voorhees on a camping trip. With cheap Barbasol shave cream I proceeded to shave with this beast after inserting a very excellent Voskod blade. I was apprehensive about cutting my face open every stroke. I avoided pressing down while keeping shave cream on my face. After 2 passes and a touch up, I rinsed off to quite possibly the closest shave to date. Using this razor was a bit of a work out but it surpassed all my expectations. I wouldn’t recommend starting with this moderately aggressive head but moving from let’s say a great mild razor like an M 1904 to this would be a perfect progression. A lighter handle would honestly make more sense but like big muscle cars and big Harley’s, it’s just fun and the V 3a is extremely well designed.

Let me tell you something, this razor is the gold standard! I never write reviews for anything, but I just have to share. The key is the weight IMHO. I don’t have to apply any pressure at all, and this ensures a consistent shave without any irritation. I pair with Astra or Wilkinson Sword blades, and the experience is top notch. Trust me, this razor will change your shaving life!!!

I see this ting is sold out – worth every penny and then some.

Love the length and head I ordered with the v3 head. Excellent razor for beginners. The handle has some weight to it and a longer handle than other maggard razors.Having the weight and length helps achieving a smooth shave.

I bought the V3 since I dropped accidently my razor and it broke the head. I received it yesterday (a pretty fast shipping) and I tried it yesterday too. I like it. I don’t regret to purchase. The only thing I regret is the rate change between $US and the $CAN but it’s not a problem from this compagny.

They certainly get a new customer for the future !

I have been using my MR8 Open comb razor exclusively for 15 shaves now and have come to two conclusions so far.

    1) You need to stop lowering the expectations by saying that it shouldn’t be compared to higher priced razors. I think it should because it would put many of them to shame.

    2) It’s the perfect razor for me. Put a Perma-Sharp Super Stainless blade or a Voskhod blade in it and it will perform super. Feather has always been my go to blade, but in this the other two work better.

This has taken the lead among my 45+ safety razors and is only rivaled by the 2011 Mühle R41 & the Merkur 37C.

Absolutely love the size and heft of the handle. Good finish and knurling. Have used it a GSB and have been rewarded with easy BBS shaves.

This thing is a beast. I ordered it simply to see what a heavy weight razor would shave like. I usually shave with a Gillette Slim set to 6 and loaded up with Feathers. I fed this handle (paired with a Maggard v2 head) a feather, whipped up my normal Proraso lather and went to town. The weight of this thing is like driving a bulldozer compared to the sedan of my Slim. Letting the weight of the razor do the work gave an effortless shave. I’d love to try this with a more aggressive head and see what the results are.

The MR8 handle is 5 stars all the way. It has excellent knurling that prevents any slippage during shaving and an extra heavy handle that prevents me from having to apply any pressure whatsoever. I purchased the MR8 primarily for the handle so I could use it with my Edwin Jagger DE89Lbl head. However, the head on the MR8 is nearly identical to the EJ so I don’t expect any difference as far as the head goes. I have only used the handle though, because I threaded my EJ head on it, but next shave I will use the MR8 head. Again, due to the nearly identical design of the head to the EJ, I do not expect any difference at all. The only reason I bought the head was because it was only $4.00 and in case there were any fitting issues with my EJ or any other heads I buy in the future. I highly recommend this razor to anyone wanting a very heavy handle. I am pleased with the weight, however it is extremely heavy compared to the EJ handle I was using. I will probably purchase razors in the 3 to 4 ounce range down the road but always have this one in the rotation. I love the feel of it but it does get heavy during the shave so I could see myself maybe wanting to switch it up a few times a week.
