Product Description

Released in September 2016, our new Slant Razor Head is a great way to try out a slant head design without breaking the bank.

The best part of the Maggard Slant is the price — $19.95 for the head alone.  The head fits on all major manufacturer’s handles, including all of the Maggard Razors stainless steel handles.  If you want to purchase one of our handles with the slant head, it will be listed as a choice on our full razor product pages.

1)  This isn’t a razor for beginners.

We rarely recommend slants as a first razor to anyone; and the Maggard Slant is no exception.   If we had to give an aggressiveness rating, our Slant would fall somewhere in the 5/10 range (compared to our Standard V3 at 3/10 and our V3A at 6/10).  It is a comfortable and efficient razor — but, you’ll have to take your time with it, and it helps to build off of a base skill set you’ve already developed.

2)  It’s based on a vintage Mulcuto / Paul Müller slant that was produced in the 1930s.

Our Slant is based on the same vintage razor that the “iKon Stainless Steel Slant” was based on; but has several design modifications to enable mass production with the materials we chose.  The shave has a different, unique feel from other slants on the market, and actually ended up different from the razor it was based on.

3)  The head is made from cast Zinc Alloy.

Are there better materials?  sure.  But, we know that price is important for many of our customers – and at $19.95, it opens up the slant razor to a whole new market.

4)  The head sometimes requires manual blade alignment.

Although testers all said it wasn’t a huge problem, there is, without a doubt – a fair amount of play in the blade fitting.  Now — all slant razors typically have SOME play – but I would say that ours has more than the average slant.  This is due to the fact that the original 1930’s razor it is modeled from also had the same characteristics.  The two alignment pegs needed to be about 5  thousands larger to resolve this issue – but the costs to modify and re-tool were just too high, so, we decided to release it anyway, because we feel like the benefits of this head far outweigh this minor inconvenience. 90% of the time, you can load a blade without thinking and it will be just fine.  But, double checking before tightening down your handle isn’t a terrible idea.  Again, this is a trade off to meet our price target.  Every single head we’ve test fitted (and it’s been a lot, believe me), is able to be properly aligned with a small amount of effort.  The easiest way is to drop on the blade to the top cap, align it with the top cap edges, hold it there on the ends of the cap, and then put the base plate on and tighten down the handle.  If it still doesn’t appear straight, loosen the handle a couple turns and use your fingers to make slight adjustments.  If you don’t like this trade off, we wouldn’t recommend purchasing our slant razor.

With this release, we’re bringing Slants to the masses.

Materials:  Zinc Alloy with a matte gray plating.  The finish is the same as our popular V3A head.

Standard M5 x 0.8 threading

Warranty:  6 months from date of purchase

Purchased the head to fit a handle that I had laying around, and I can tell you I am blow away. This morning was the first time I used the head with my moderately heavy handle, and it was incredibly smooth. Not to mention I used London Barbershop which I also just purchased. Even though it was a little more aggressive than I am use to no nicks or cuts, and would highly recommend this head if that is all you need or the handle and head I imagine is very balanced. GREAT PRODUCT MaggardRazors….

I bought this razor off Ebay from a seller who only used it one time, it came with the matching Maggard handle. I am seriously blown away by how efficient this razor is. The weight and balance is right on point and I’m going to compare this razor to my other slant that was 5 times the cost of this one. I am very happy I bought this razor I really didn’t know what to expect and I was a bit skeptical at first but now that I’ve used it I can say it’s a quality piece of equipment. You certainly will not be disappointed if you pick one of these up. I highly recommend it.

Flawless and beatiful design!! Shaves great to! Its not mild but not really agressive either. Just very effetive.

Jerick from Maggard suggested I buy this head, so I went for it. I was delighted to find that it is slightly more aggressive to me than the iKon X3. It’s very smooth and predictable, with a fair amount of audible feedback, and I can get BBS in 3 passes (it took me 4 passes with the iKon). I immediately noticed that the top cap had imperfections, so I sent Maggard an email with photos to inform them about it. I had no intention of sending it back, because it would not be worth the trouble. Brad promptly thanked me and gave me a $10 credit (which I, of course, immediately put towards another purchase!). I was so impressed by the way he handled this–I definitely felt valued as a customer. This level of great service is one of the many reasons why I always go to Maggard first for anything wet shaving.

I’ve been wanting to try a slant for some time & decided to take the plunge on this thinking if I didn’t like it at least I didn’t have a lot of money invested. Let me tell you this is the best $20 I’ve spent in a long time! Not only is this comfortable to shave with it looks really nice! Workmanship is top-notch for the price point. I paired mine with a iKon OSS handle for a very nice looking, comfortable & balanced razor. I don’t think you’ll find a better razor for the $$$!

I love this slant head! I’ve been using it for months now and get a great shave every time. I used Feather blades and had to be careful as it was too close for the first couple of shaves. I attended the 2017 shave meet at Maggard and had a great time. Won a slant head razor with the new anodized blue handle. Thanks Brad and Casie!

Good quality razor head and the finish is flawless. I do find it somewhat awkward to align the blade. Had a decent first shave with this but it will take some practice. I normally shave with a Merkur slant. Used the same technique and pressure but didn’t get as close a shave. Could have been blade alignment or could have been my technique. I’ll report back.

  8. 5 out of 5

Bought this head, along with a stainless steel handle many months ago. This was my first slant ever. Here is my review.

First, the head is exceptionally well made. The brown coating is uniform, with a color quite unusual in the wet-shaving world. The surface is not excessive shiny, not matte either; just perfect. No burrs or rough edges, the machining is almost perfect. For a piece of metal Made in India (I think) this is head and shoulders above the level of finishing of the Merkur’s heads.

I didn’t encounter any blade misalignment so far. But…there is something really important to mention. Like at least two reviewers above, I noticed a visible difference in blade exposure on one side compared to the other side. Even if the blade edges are equally exposed, one side is visibly more aggressive than the other. If this is your case too, I’d suggest to take a good look (in the light) at which side is which, before potting the razor on your face. The “normal” side, which is milder can be used for ATG passes, using very light pressure. Well, the more exposed, aggressive side will cut even your normal, tiny bumps of the skin, not speaking of acne or moles. In my opinion, this more aggressive side is more suited for beard or goatee contours. It can be used for the whole face too, no problem. My recommendation is to use it only for WTG passes, again with minimal pressure.

So, do I view this issue as a negative aspect? NO! I fact I like this slant head this way. I have two levels of aggressiveness in one piece, which is good. You have several days of beard growth? Use the more badass side (You can use it even on two days of growth). Wanna go smoother? Use the other side. Be aware though that this can feel more gentle on your skin (depending also of the slickness of your soap) and you can be temped to increase the pressure. And then this is the moment when the blade starts to bite.

All in all, a very efficient razor head. Depending on your skin, your whiskers and your style of shaving it is possible to get a near BBS on the cheeks and a DFS on the rest with only one WTG pass with the more aggressive side. One pass, feather-like pressure, no irritation., what’s not to like?

A final word of caution. Because, unlike other heads, the base plate is rounded too, that means that a larger diameter handle won’t make properly contact with the base plate. This was initially my case, when I ordered also a MR6 stainless steel handle. Well, the handle, once screwed, touched the lower part of the base plate in only two points; its diameter was too big for the contact-zone on the plate. Luckily, I replaced the MR6 with the MR7 handle (from another Maggard razor I have) , which had a smaller diameter at the contact zone, and the larger MR6 went to the other Maggard head (their first model, I think, a copy of the classic Merkur head – now discontinued here and replaced with the Muehle-like shape). Once, again, do not pair the slant head with the MR6 handle, choose another.

Happy with my purchase, my razor and the feeling of using a slant. Thanks Maggard.

    Greetings from Romania.

I purchased the slant razor head during the Black Friday event. Used it several times this is the first slant I bought. It gives a great smooth shave. Like the black finish vs the Crome finish it looks classy. I would recommend it if your in the hunt for a slant and the cost compared to others, Maggard . Great website.

I have only been wet shaving for about six months and have only used Maggard handles (the MR3 and MR11) and heads (the standard V3 and aggressive V3A), so this review is only a comparison between Maggard products. I can not compare this product to that of any other manufacturer.

Maggard had correctly characterized its slant head as less aggressive than is aggressive V3A head. I agree with Maggard’s assessment. I have been very meticulous about blade alignment and am confident that it was as aligned as possible. While I get a comfortable shave with the slant head, I do not get a noticiabley less comfortable shave with the aggressive V3A head. For me, the big difference is the closeness of the shave. After about 10 shaves, I do not get nearly as close a shave with the slant head as I do with the aggressive V3A. To come close means taking multiple passes with the slant head, and eventually I have some minor nicks and scrapes and still do not have as close a shave. The slant head’s comfort is good and its closeness is not awful, but the aggressive V3A’s shave is almost as comfortable and much closer.

This is just one person’s opinion. I will stick with the Maggard aggressive V3A head. Other reviewers have had much better results. I would encourage anyone to try the slant head against your current product.

As for customer service, I have never had less than outstanding experience with Maggard, both over the phone on line. Their knowledge and support is outstanding!

Nice finish and contrary to what I was told to expect, the appearance seems to be fine once on the handle with the blade loaded. Some of the hidden bits are a bit less refined but who looks there anyway?

I find the coating and the rounded edge of the safety bar to give a smooth feel. The tabs on the sides of the blade are covered by the head which means I don’t nick myself when I flip the razor close to the skin (bad habit I can’t kick) but it also makes manoeuvring slightly more tricky.

It gives a far more efficient shave than my DE89; what needed 3 passes can now be done in 2. However, alignment is tricky on mine and I have to be careful when loading the blade. Maggard’s does let you know about this so I won’t complain.

I’m also having the mismatched blade exposure that another review has mentioned. No amount of adjustment of the alignment seems to fix this and this means that one side of each edge of the razor is a tiny bit more aggressive than the other. The multiple passes I make seem to sidestep the issue and I still prefer using this to my other razors anyway. For those reasons, the razor gets a pass from me.

As a gateway into the world of slants, I find this product to be more than adequate for the price.

I just received mine. It is aesthetically pleasing. Loaded in a blade. Alignment no issue.

However, if I look at the side of the razor (against a back light), blade exposure or angle (I don’t know the term) is markedly different between the left and right side of the razor. Maybe I got a bad one.

This results in one side of the razor being more aggressive than the other.
I want to like/use/enjoy this razor but this one is not going on my face.

Reply from Maggard: Please contact us and we’ll be happy to resolve your issue!

This is an amazing razor. For years I’ve been shaving with the venerable Mekur 39c Sledgehammer. Quite frankly I didn’t think I’d ever find another razor I loved as much. I was wrong. This razor along with the MR7 handle just blows me away. The look, the weight, and the smoothness of the shave are all better. At first I was taken aback by the blade gap/exposure and thought there was no way it would be smooth. Not only is it smooth but the larger gap allows it to be more aggressive at the same time. The ability to choose your own handle just puts it on another level. I’ve shaved with several blades in it and they all work great. Astra, Wilkinson, GSB and Permasharp to name a few. It removes my very thick beard like nothing is there. Great job Maggard!!

Fantastic razor. Does a great job and is a great price. Hard not to buy this one.

I’m very impressed by the coating, and how smooth and solid it is. This isn’t my first slant, so I knew what I was getting. However, the amount of space between the blade and the bar is just what I needed! I shave my scalp, and my other slant is a bakelite from Phoenix Shaving. This is my first metal slant, and I bought it because I needed something a *bit* heavier than the bakelite version even though I love it.
I got it in the mail today, threw on a Lord brand blade (purchased a trial box of them with the order), and whipped up some shaving lotion. Just as expected, it cruised right through without any issues. The metal weight made it easier to track by feel, and also made the head sink through the hair better. I have a bit more learning to do with this razor due to the weight difference. That being said, I was able to shave my head very quickly with minimal issue and touch up at the same time. Very minimal resistance, it still amazes me how efficient (and dangerous if used wrong) the slant heads are.
This is a very good buy, in my eyes.

Finally pulled the trigger on this razor after deciding my Merkur 32c simply wasn’t aggressive enough. Comparing the two heads, I can definitely see how the alignment posts are too narrow, but the blade seems to load just fine. I did two wtg passes and a little buffing, and was very impressed by how smooth the shave was. On my second pass, if it hadn’t been able to hear the blade going through my stubble, I might have thought I was sliding the cap along my face in a couple of spots. It absolutely destroyed two or three weeks’ worth of growth, which is something my Merkur has never been able to claim.

My one minor quibble with the Maggard slant is that the cap, like on my Maggard travel razor, feels thin and a little sharp compared to others. That’s just a question of feel and personal preference, as once the blade is loaded it doesn’t impact the shave. For $20 I’d unreservedly recommend this as an introduction to slant heads.

I have been shaving with the Maggard slant head since Christmas (was a present). It is on the M5 handle and am completely satisfied with how smooth it is. I have 3 razors and after shaving with this head, I have pretty much abandoned my other 2. The first shave, I had to double check my face all the time because I could barely feel anything as it was cutting. It was cutting and left no irritation. I typically use a Rapira Platinum Lux and am amazed that I have gotten 6-8 shaves on a blade and it doesn’t seem to dull them. I am replacing them after 8 as I don’t want to wait too long and get a rough shave if I don’t need to. Yet, same blade on the other two razors I have and I get 2-3 uses before the blade starts feeling rough on the face. Also, it is very easy to load the blades and keep the blade in alignment on this thing. I also like the fact the blade edges are completely covered (I wish all heads hid all parts of the blade). Lastly, I am not about spending a whole lot of money on shaving material ( my soaps are Sterling, RazoRock, Blackship Grooming Company and Proraso) which are are great bangs for my buck. The is an excellent buy for the money…very happy.

I bought both the Ikon X3 and the Maggard slant from Maggard Razors, and have had time to compare them. Both are excellent slant heads, and I am sorry that I haven’t tried a slant razor before. Both give smooth shaves,

I will continue to use both, but have found the Maggard Slant to be more efficient and actually easier on my face, as the design has allowed me to get as close as possible without having to exert any extra pressure for a good shave. I know that this is what is recommended in general for slant razors, but I found myself pressing down just “a little” with the X3. I also like that I can use a sharp blade with the Maggard head such as Polsilver. I also like the weight of the Maggard head and the finish.

    HIghly recommended!

A very smooth comfortable razor to use. I used it with the MR5 handle. I recommend this razor unreservedly.

I have five slants, three adjustable razors and a number of open combs. Modern and vintage, I shave my tough beard with aggressive razors such as the Muhle R41 and the Ikon Tech. If your technique is very good I find aggressive razors getthe job done best with little chance of irritation. I use my Mergress on 3 to five and my Futur on 3 to 6. So I like aggressive, but more importantly, efficient razors.

I’ve had two shaves with this slant so far and each has produced a BBS shave with three passes and touch up. No nicks or weepers and a shave that lasted over twelve hours and was still smooth. The blade was a Rapira Platinum Lux. Pre-shave oil to prep, and Arko shave stick for lather. My two shaves with this slant are amongst the best shaves that I’ve had with any razor. I prefer it to my Ikon 102 slant. Not all slants are good: I hate my Lutz. Vastly overrated. But this Maggard has a place in my rotation. My feeling is that it will couple well with most blades.

This razor’s aggression is a bit like a Progress (or my Mergress) on setting three, or a Futur on two. Far less aggressive that the Muhle R41 but more efficient and more comfortable to use. More efficient than the Ikon Tech which for me a least, is over aggressive without being especially efficient. Whilst this is a forgiving head I would recommend it to those who have at least solid technique, not complete newbies.

I have another slant I love, a Razorock German 37. (which though it looks like my Merkur 37C produces a much better shave, not sure why) which I like as much as this but I would say the Maggard is a little smoother and more forgiving.

You really can’t go wrong with this head at this bargain price. By the way, it arrived super fast and was well packed.

Fabulous head, efficient and gentle (for a slant). Smoother and less aggressive than my V3A. I love that the blade is covered on the ends, it looks so nice. I haven’t had any alignment issues. Highly recommended!

Very efficient razor and very easy to use. I cut myself a lot less with this razor than any other razor I own which is why I’ve been using it so much. I put on an Edwin Jagger handle which is just fine for my use. Usually I wait till the 3rd pass to go against the grain, but I go against the grain 2nd pass with this slant because of the cutting quality I get from this shaver. I was just experimenting in buying this slant head but it turned out to be a very good gamble and worthy investment as it is now my favorite razor to shave with. Highly recommend.

I picked this up at the retail store right after Thanksgiving and haven’t stopped using it. I normally rotate razors every 3 days, but after putting this head on an Ikon Bulldog handle the results are spectacular, easy to achieve, so no need or desire to change.

Very pleased with this razor. I’m used to aggressive razors and was surprised that I got such a smooth comfortable shave with barely feeling the blade ,no nicks or cuts . I paired it with the MR14 handle for a matching look but I think a heavier handle would suite me better.

Fantastic slant paired with the MR5 handle.I was very impressed with the smooth and efficient shave this slant provided. No blade alignment issues with mine and the fit and finish was flawless. In my honest opinion the quality and performance of this razor is far and away above the price point of this little gem.If you are looking to try a slant for the first time, this is the one!!!

  25. 5 out of 5

I like slants very much, and this is an excellent head. Efficient as the 37c but smoother. Less aggressive than RR 37. It is easy to find the right shaving angle so, for me, the Maggard Slant is better in that regard than the X3. Just be careful as to not apply much pressure. Also, I really like the deep dark color and the glossy coating of the head. This is a beautiful slant. I hope that the coating will last over time. In my experience the Maggard Slant works better with heavy handles -give it a shot with one and you will like it even more 🙂

I received my new slant razor along with a new handle. Nice fit and finish…I gave it 4 stars because as described on the website there is some need for alignment but that shouldn’t be a deal breaker if you are considering thus DE razor. My first shave with the Maggard slant went well and better than expected because the angle of the blade/head looks a little weird but it was a nice shave. I will put this in my rotation and am looking forward to getting more comfortable with shaving with a slanted DE razor head. By the way my handle was a scratch & dent but I could barely see a light wisp of a very small scratch. As far as I’m concerned the handle is perfect!

Wow. Lots of awesome reviews. So, I had to try one. I must be a little unusual for a razor of this type because I find it a little harsh for my face. Don’t get me wrong, I think it shaves very closely and smoothly. My problem is that it left me with a bit of razor burn on my neck and under my chin. I used it for a full blade rotation (about 10 days) and while some blades were smoother than others in this razor, they all left me a little red and sore. All of my alum post-shave rubs caused a little more tingle than with other razors. Conversely, when I use the same blades in the Maggard V2 head, I am left with a more comfortable face after my shave. So, YMMV. Overall, I think that quality of the this slant head is very good. The finish is super smooth and I love the color. Matched with the MR-14 handle and this razor is just beautiful.

The Ikon B1 slant has been my daily shaver for almost a year and I was looking for a cheaper travel razor that would feel somewhat like it. I got this one yersterday and put it on my Ikon handle to see how it compared.
Well, they may not be exactly the same, but you can definitely feel that they share a common ancestor. Being used to the Icon, I felt immediately at home. Same angle, perhaps a tiny bit less aggressive (shaving the difficult areas is a little easier with the Ikon, but so is getting a blood point), the Maggard head passed the test brilliantly.
This is going to be my go to razor for any situation where I don’t want to take my more expansive Ikon slant with me. I can’t recommend it enough.
IMO, this would even be a excellent beginner razor. It’s efficient, gentle on the skin and very forgiving.

Just tried out the Maggard slant razor with the MR5 handle and I was blown away with the results. I normally shave with an Above The Tie M2 Open Comb and a Gillette 7’oclock super platinum blade. Using the razor for the first time I decided to play it safe and I choose a Voskhod blade. The results were a buttery smooth BBS shave that mowed down the hairs with great ease. It was so smooth that it almost felt like I was hardly shaving. The razor also has nice audible feedback. The slant head with the MR5 is an incredible razor and at a very reasonable price. I have spent far more money on other razors that do not perform nearly as good as the Maggard slant. If you are looking for a slant razor with a great handle then your search is over with the Maggard offering.

I’ve been using a Muhle 89 Grande for over 3 years now. Today I just received this head and put it on my Muhle Grande handle and got an excellent shave, BBS quality. I shave my entire head and face every day.

I got my Maggard Slant a few weeks back. Finally got it out this morning!

This is my first slant razor so I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. I tried to do all of my prep like I always do. Warm shower, pre-shave oil and then used my TOBS Sandlewood. I used a Gillette 7 O’Clock SS blade (I haven’t used these too often, but they have done well when I have).

The first swipe down my cheek was so smooth and quiet, I wasn’t sure I had actually gotten the blade to my face. Looking in the mirror, proved I had. Both cheeks went well. The chin was a bit rough and pulled a bit on the first pass. The jaw line and neck went pretty well for a first pass. Under my right nostril went fine. Under the left seemed difficult to get no matter what I tried(I did eventually get it).

The second pass was much better over my entire face. I decided to go for the third pass and really clean up. After the third pass, I still had a few rough patches on my neck but the rest of my face was as smooth as glass(I rarely get a shave this smooth). A quick last pass on those last couple of small patches took care of them.

It was a bit odd with the angle of the head overall, but that was obviously due to my first attempt with a slant. No weepers but I did nick the outer nostril flair on the left side while trying to get those pesky hairs near the nose. I also managed a small cut to the lower part of my neck near the center(not even sure how, I’ve never done that before). Overall a really good experience with this razor and blade combination. Will definitely be adding the Maggard Slant to my rotation!

With just a little practice and the right blade, this slant design can perform as well as any slant design presently on the market. And, having the ability to add a handle of your choice is quite a bonus for all shavers.

  34. 5 out of 5

I’ve been a DE shaver for some time. I have both a closed comb and open comb razor. Both heads are by Muhle. Last year I spent about 8 months testing these razor heads and 12 different razor blades to determine which combination worked best for me. Astra, Gillette Silver Blue and Rapira all gave good shaves with the closed comb razor with Rapira a close winner for smoothness. With the open comb razor Rapira was a clear winner. It’s important to note that my beard is fairly coarse and about a density of 7 on a 1-10 scale. Your results may vary depending on beard quality. When Maggard came out with the slant safety head for $20 I decided to give it a try and compare it to all the testing I had previously done. It gets 5 stars for it’s smoothness and forgiveness. The first blade I tried in the razor was the Feathers, considered by virtually all DE shavers as the sharpest DE blade on the market. I had to double check the razor to make sure I had a blade in it because it was so smooth and I had no nicks which are easy to get with the open comb razor and Feathers blades if you’re not very careful. I find that, for me, Feathers are a little too sharp and create excessive razor burn. That was also the case using the Maggard slant razor. I next tried the razor using my favorite Rapira blade and the shave wasn’t quite as smooth as with the Feathers but pretty close and with significantly less razor burn. For closeness of the shave I think the slant is somewhere in between the closed comb razor and the open comb razor but smoother than both and certainly more forgiving that the open comb razor. It doesn’t appear that the slant makes the razor burn either more or less problematic, at least with respect to the two blades I have tested so far. Overall, I think the slant will be my general go-to razor head. If I have 3 days or more beard growth I will use the open comb razor and if I’m in a hurry I might use the closed comb as a change of pace, but most days I’m going to use the slant. I have some more blades to test out but so far the Rapira works great with this razor. I would highly recommend this head, especially for beginning DE shavers because of it’s forgiveness. If there were just two razor heads in my shaving kit it would be the open comb and the slant.

A slant to be reckoned with, excellent glide with that coating, bbs all the way, put on a heavy elite razor handle for perfect balance, plus it looks awesome with python pattern since the head color is so neutral. Very impressed.

    The best value around.
This is the best way to try out a slant that I have ever seen! I have been using this razor head for about two weeks – one week with the MRG handle, and one week with an iKon SE handle. Both have provided excellent shaves with little effort. I prefer a heavy razor, so it took a day for me to remember to use no pressure, but after that the shaves have been consistently excellent.
I think this head is more efficient and more comfortable that the 39c, my previous favorite slant. This one is better because I can use different handles whenever I want – the lighter MRG for travel, or even the MRT shorty travel handle would work great.

Been wet shaving since 04/16. Switched from cartridge razors because I was done paying $4 for a weeks worth of shaves. My quest to find the right combo has been long and a little frustrating. I’ve tried a couple of TTO handles, not a fan of them, Merkur 34C, couldn’t cut myself or half my beard with it. I landed on a cheap 3 piece Smoothere. Best shave thus far in my journey. I’ve decided that I like 3 piece razors. Bought a Weber SS handle (didn’t find Maggard until after I bought by Weber) and thought I was set for a while. I had been pondering a slant for some time due to regular irritation on my neck with my Smoothere razor. I was just about to pull the trigger on the 37C when Maggard offered their slant. I already had a handle so this made sense. Ordered it on a Thursday and had it the following Monday. Thanks Maggard!

This was the first attempt with a slant and I was a little timid about the stigma of “THE SLANT.” Been using the Maggard slant for two weeks now as a daily shaver. This head gives me the best, smoothest, next to zero irritation, most intuitive and efficient shave I’ve ever had hands down. I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting very comfortable with wet shaving, but the blade angle is so simple and natural to find. It’s the easiest razor I’ve shaved with by far. I would say its smooth like the 34C, but you can feel the blade a little. I apply next to zero pressure and it does its job. It can cut you if you totally disregard that you are shaving with a DE razor, but that’s the same with any DE razor. I feel some TTO razors are way more aggressive (harder to find correct blade angle) than this slant.

Bought a sample pack of blades and testing combos out. I’ve used an Astra Super Platinum, Polsilver Super Iridium, Dorco 301, and Crystal in the head. I still have the Dorco Prime and Feather to test out. Best shave so far is with the Polsilver Super Iridium blades. Although all blades have produced a great shave, my neck needs a sharp blade or it gets irritated. The Polsilver gives me 3 days of use where with the Astra I get 1-2 before my neck talks back to me.

I’m extremely satisfied with the quality of the shave this head gives. Regrowth starts to become noticeable in mid-afternoon. Some areas are smooth well into the afternoon. I shaved at 6am this morning and it’s 4pm. The center of my cheeks are still BBS. Loving the shaves from this slant head. If I focus doing my shave I can get a 2 pass BBS shave with very minimal clean up. For me I wouldn’t shave with anything else for daily use. This is my daily shaver for the foreseeable future. Love it!!!

I’ve been using a 37c for the past few months and won’t be going back to it anytime soon after getting such a smooth, comfortable, close shave with this head, a Vokshad blade, and the Maggard 23 handle. No issues with blade alignment or shave angle. A great wetshaving tool to add to your repertoire at an attractive price

Maggard Razors Slant Safety Razor Head shaves efficiently and fairly aggressively so pay attention whilst shaving. No issues with blade alignment. I recommend this razor head and it is my rotation.

Just got my Maggard slant and I absolutely love it. It doesn’t seem as aggressive as the Ikon X3 and the result of that is a really smooth and efficient shave. This will probably be my go to slant for now on. Keep up the great work Maggard!

This razor is very smooth and efficient. I like it much better than the 37C, which didn’t give me anywhere near a BBS shave. I tried the slant with the M11 handle and a Gillette yellow and got great 3 pass results. I would say this razor is one notch more aggressive than my Razorock Jaws. I’m very happy with my purchase.

I read in the reviews that this slant head is a lot more aggressive than the Merkur 37/39C. I have shaved only twice with this head but I think it is not nearly as aggressive as the Merkur slants (I am saying this from experience, I have a 39C.) The Maggard slant is also slightly more efficient than the Ikon X3 (which is too mild for me). This could be a daily shaver due to the fact that it is smooth and fairly efficient, also seems difficult to cut yourself with it, unlike the 39C that requires a higher level of concentration while shaving. I use an Ikon OSS handle with this head, and the combination feels pretty good. Love the gunmetal coating, by the way…

Just got my Maggard Slant head and put it on my MR5 handle and this thing looks sick (the good kind). Easily my best looking razor, and I’ve got bamboo’s, Ikon’s, whatever. I was a little skeptical reading that there might be some play for the razor, but its nothing like what I imagined. It’s a really good fit. Great shaver also. Just get this one and stop there. This will probably be my go to for a long time. No need to pick up another slant They really made it happen here. Go Maggard!!

The Maggard Slant razor head is an absolute bargain. I’ve been moving away from DE razors and toward SE, because the added rigidity of SE blades gives me a superior shave. However, the large amount of torque that the Maggard Slant applies to the blade makes the blade quite rigid, resulting in a very smooth, very comfortable shave. In my experience, the Maggard slant beats my Above the Tie S1 slant hands-down.

As mentioned on the Description page for this item, you sometimes have to do a bit of fiddling to get the blade perfectly aligned. This process is complicated somewhat by the fact that the blade tabs are not exposed. Also, the shaving angle is very different from what you may have experienced with other DE razors–start with the handle parallel to your face, and then decrease the angle from there. However, these are minor issues and shouldn’t deter anyone from purchasing this razor.

Really, the only problem with this head is its zamak construction, which in theory doesn’t have the longevity that a steel/brass/aluminum razor would have. I hope that the Maggards decide to make a stainless steel or aluminum version of this head one day–I’d gladly pay a premium for a version of this razor that will last forever.

I’ve done three shaves with this slant and all went great. Very smooth and efficient. At this point I don’t think a person could go wrong with any of the Maggard line of razor’s. I couldn’t see much difference between this slant and the Merkur slant I have. I haven’t been using a slant much since I bought the other Maggard heads. I keep reaching for my V2OC the most. Now I’ll have all four of the Maggard heads. I like them all and for the price you can’t beat them. Good quality great shaving heads that can’t be beat!! Good service and products!!

i’m giving 5 stars because I was expecting this to be an aggressive razor, and at first I was a little disappointed in its aggressiveness because I had been using the Muhle R41, however after a multi pass shave with a shark stainless and WSP Formula T soap I was left with a BBS shave with absolutely no blood or irritation and 18 hours later my face is still very smooth, to me this is a vert efficient and forgiving shaver and most certainly could be use daily

Got this razor today and had a very nice shave. For 20 dollars, this slant head is a steal. It’s an amazing shaver. Can be somewhat aggressive, but it’s very efficient. I only have two other slants, the ikon 102 and the fine superlite and this slant in my opinion is much better than the other two slants I have. BTW, the head looks AMAZING. Looks very well done and it looks like it cost much more than it actually does. This head is a must try if you like slant razors. Popped it on the maggards mr5 handle and you have an efficient slant razor that will last you a very long time.

I was unhappy with the V3A (annoying blade alignment fiddling needed, shave too aggressive) and in general hate having to pay for two or three versions of a head to get something that is reasonably unflawed.

That said, the new Slant gets it right the first time out. The blade alignment seems more likely to work the first time than the V3A, and the shave is quite aggressive without leading to discomfort. Fit and finish on the slant is very nice as well. If you wanted to try a slant and did not want to pay more than $35 for the experience, you need look no further. In my opinion, this $30 MR6 and slant combo I bought easily outperforms the $38 Merkur 37, and looks nicer as well, along with having a more versatile and reliable three piece design, versus the annoying proprietary Merkur two piece system.

The one caution note I would sound is that this slant is a lot more aggressive than the Merkur 37/39, so if you are expecting something that is friendly to newcomers, you probably want to start with the Maggard Closed Comb V3 rather than this. Nice job, Maggards!

Love it!! Put it on a Bull Dog handle and got a very good if not great shave for only 2 passes! Bbs cheeks and a very DFS on my neck. For the price you should not pass this shaver up.

Really like the new Maggard Slant head. Gives a smooth comfortable shave, Much more forgiving than the MR18c and the MRG, I didn’t find it to be aggressive, but cut thru stubble wonderfully. I like that the blade ends are covered, so the blade does not scratch the counter. Had no problems with blade alignment at all, just have to watch shaving angle since it is a slant. Have only had 2 shaves with it so far, but I think it is a nice razor that gives the Icon X3 a run for the money.
