Product Description

I’ve acquired a Hungarian lavender essential oil that I’m very enthusiastic about. It’s flowery, herbaceous, earthy, and fresh.

This soap is the real deal. Tallow is the main ingredient, regarded by many shaving enthusiasts (myself included) as yielding the creamiest, slickest, and most protective lather possible. In addition, this soap is rich in vegetable glycerin, kokum butter, shea butter, and avocado oil. It also contains kaolin clay, which creates a slick buffer between your skin and the blade.

The icing on the cake is lanolin, a waxy substance derived from the wool of sheep and a fantastic conditioner and humectant. This soap will provide an effortless and downright decadent shave that will leave your skin feeling soft, supple, and smooth. Each tin contains about 5 ounces of soap.

Great soap, greasy, slippery, the scent of lavender. classic. Recommend.

This is my third waltz with Mike’s Natural shaving soaps. It is one of the few that I have actually used up. Mike’s soaps are the real deal and may be my favorite of the artisan soaps I have tried. It produce a slick cushiony lather that leaves a very nice post-shave feel. I find that Mike’s soap wants a bit more water than other soaps, perhaps because kaolin (clay) — which soaks up water — is one of the ingredients. This is a great product. It comes in a generous sized puck in a bare bones container, but I am fine with that. I would rather pay for product that packaging. Lavender is by far my favorite of the three fragrances I have tried. I also love that the ingredients list does not include a single one that I cannot pronounce.

Very good shaving soap. The smell of lavender is one of the best I’ve tried. Slipping and feeling after shaving are excellent.

    Best lavender soap ever!

Did not care for this one. The scent is very conservative, like 3/10 strength. The soap took more work and water to make slick than any of my other soaps.

Once properly lathered, it works well, but I prefer soaps that are easier and quicker to use.

The soap is bigger and harder than average and looks like it will last a very long time.

Mike’s technical aspects of his soap are impeccably well executed. His base has been carefully conceived and well tested, and although his branding is low key and almost rustic, this is great stuff. In a world full of artisans who blindly copy the archaic MdC minimalist soap base and then chuck some avocado oil in, it’s nice to see an artisan who can compete with the better known artisan brands with careful ingredient selection and chemistry props. This is excellent soap, with fine glide, and cushion, and post shave feel that’s second to none in the very competitive artisanal soap world.

As for the scent, lavender is unique in being capable of creating a scent world in itself, rather like the piano can create its own symphony. The excellent quality lavender Mike uses here is a mix of woods, grassy, and very natural floral notes. The Hungarian variant of the lavender is known for not having the medicinal camphor scent to it that the more familiar (and expensive) French lavender EO does, and Mike’s composition brings out that truth accurately. This has a slight herbal note to it, but it is a subtle spicy scent rather than the VapoRub note that MdC original presents with, This is not really a dark lavender, but is bright and warm weather oriented.

As you can see, this is a great smell, really complex, and quite true to the best natural lavender scent offered in the wet shaving world. I would call this the equal of the recent Catie’s Lavande Menage, and superior to B&M Lavanda in quality of lavender EO scenting used.

Another winner from Mike’s. Restock, Maggard’s, and add more scents!
