Product Description

A complex, potent, manly scent consisting of bergamot, basil, oakmoss, and patchouli.

This soap is the real deal. Tallow is the main ingredient, regarded by many shaving enthusiasts (myself included) as yielding the creamiest, slickest, and most protective lather possible. In addition, this soap is rich in vegetable glycerin, kokum butter, shea butter, and avocado oil. It also contains kaolin clay, which creates a slick buffer between your skin and the blade.

The icing on the cake is lanolin, a waxy substance derived from the wool of sheep and a fantastic conditioner and humectant. This soap will provide an effortless and downright decadent shave that will leave your skin feeling soft, supple, and smooth. Each tin contains about 5 ounces of soap.

Mike’s is a top three soap for me and I’ve tried most of what’s been out there over the past four or five years. Mike’s is one of the originals and I sincerely appreciate the way he goes about his business. It’s about what’s in the tub with straight forward quality ingredients. No giraffe tallow or Icelandic glacial water. In terms of scent, Mike’s Barbershop is my favorite barbershop scents. His lime is a favorite too. Shout out to Mike. I hope his business is still going strong.

Magnificent! Notice a real improvement in lather thickness and durability. Slick!

Mike’s is definitely in my top 5 soap bases, and his Barbershop lives up to it’s legendary status.

Great scent, protection, slickness and post shave. Rockstar all the way around.

    Excellent soap!
    Elegant foam, slip, moisturizing.
It should be noted – that this is 5OZ, for not very big money!

This is my second Mike’s soap, and it is what I thought it would be: unassumingly great. The scent is not overpowering, and the lather is rich and slick. I prefer a slicker lather, and I can add plenty of water to this soap with no issue. Post shave is great as well. There is a reason why Mike’s Natural has a cult following–it’s just that good.

A great soap. Amazing smell, great slide, good care. Face pinches a little. My rating soap from Mike is in the top line.

Mike’s soaps are excellent! Very good lather, slick, and very pure also. No Hydroxides. For me, the scent could be stronger but that’s a minor issue being that this soap is so good.

I wrote a recent negative review of this soap. I thought I should write a follow-up to thiat review. Having discovered a new technique, I received a much better shave. Instead of loading my brush from the tin, I pressed small portion of the soap into the bottom of my lather bowl. I then made lather directly from the soap in the bottom of the bowl. This worked much, much better and the shaye was considerably better.

I have been using this soap for a while. I can’t seem to get a good lather with the soap. I find the soap to be thirsty requiring extra moisture to load the bush. Then, when the lather is made in a bowl, it is too wet causing the lather to fall apart quickly on the face. Because of the thin lather, I have actually experienced razor chatter on my face during a shave. Loading with a dryer brush does not work either. This soap has a wonderful recipe of ingredients. For me however, the primary purpose of a shaving soap is luxurious, resilient lather. Skin care is secondary. I find this soap has little cushion during the shave and post shave results are definitely inferior. My experience with this soap has been disappointing..

The best soap for shaving. Excellent sliding, moisture, aroma. Do not sting the face. Consumption is small. After shaving, the skin condition is very cool. Always i use soap this manufacturer. Many have tried, but this soap – the leader of my rankings.

After using softer soaps like Prorasso the last few years, I thought I’d give this a try. Right away I really liked it. Lather was very good, it provided a nice comfortable shave, and the scent was out of this world. Unfortunately, that scent I loved so much seemed to disappear after a while, which is why I’m only giving it 4 stars. Maybe this is characteristic of soaps made like this? Shave quality and lather have remained good though.

Mike and his soaps have been around for a long while, and the major problem with the brand in the past was availability and distribution. The new arrangement with Maggard’s will hopefully address this issue.

Performance is top notch – the only clay / tallow soap I’ve found that works perfectly, and (IMO) the only first gen artisan tallow that can run with Glissant, CRSW V2, and the new MLS. Mike has labored long and hard on his base and has come up with a perfect mix of ease of lathering, slickness, and cushion, and the post shave feel is amazing. This is a fine technical soap and seems to work well in both soft and hard water.

Scent is amazing. Basically exactly the same as Maggards London Barbershop – the basil dominates, and the bergamot gives some sharpness, the patchouli some eathiness, and the oakmoss some sweetness with a hint of powder. This is much more natural smelling that most “Barbershop” scents, and, unlike the Maggards, this Mike’s scent does not irritate my face at all, while Maggards Barbershop burns me like napalm. I highly recommend this soap for anyone that likes this traditional scent, yet who also may have sensitive skin and / or a need for the best possible technical performance along with a robust scent.

Definitely a masculine scent, strong and vibrant during the shave but fades rapidly once rinsed (as it should). Great brand – easy to lose track of among all the flashier labels and newer bases, but Mike does solid work and this scrupulous artisan deserves your support.
