Product Description

Our experience with razors has inspired a desire to create the best razor possible. We have used the highest marine-grade stainless steel that is corrosion resistant and so advanced it requires specialized machining. We have continued the Gillette date code system (2017 = M, 2018 = N, 2019 = O) and have included serial numbers for quality control and product registration. We have put years of passion into designing the best razor so you can have the best shaving experience.

Shaving with an Ambassador is smooth and efficient – it’s very easy to find the right blade angle. And because it’s infinitely adjustable, getting the perfect shave is just a matter of turning the dial up or down for a closer or more mild shave. The weight is hefty and balanced right below the adjustment dial – perfect for letting the razor do the work. The Sure Grip knurled handle makes holding onto this razor easy and comfortable – especially in wet conditions.

I really wanted to love this razor. I mean, look at it! It’s incredible! I do love the classic, industrial design. I also love the homage to Gillette’s 195 Adjustable Razor (Fatboy). I love that it’s stainless steel. The quality and workmanship are second to none. That’s about where the love stops for me. Don’t get me wrong. I do like this razor, but it’s not exactly what I was hoping for. The main issue I have with it is it’s very aggressive. I normally gravitate to mild razors, and I use the 2 setting on my old Fatboy. I tried the 2 setting on the Ambassador and could immediately tell it was too aggressive. I turned it down to 1.5 and that was too aggressive. I then turned it down as low as I could, which was ok. I’m getting smooth, relatively irritation free shaves. It’s just that I can still feel so much blade on my skin. I have very fair, sensitive skin, and even medium razors tend to tear up my face. Perhaps I’m judging this razor too harshly. Perhaps it’s meant to be highly efficient regardless of the setting. Perhaps I need to change my angle of attack. Maybe a different blade. I don’t know, but I’ll keep fiddling with it to see if I can get what I want out of it.

I love the handle on this! The chromium-plated fluting on a Merkur Progress seemed okay until I shaved with the Ambassador. Now I only need to hold, but not really ‘grip’ the Ambassador as its weight is sufficient to marry the finely-milled handle texture with my fingertip ridges. I’m a senior but don’t have pain or arthritis or weakness in my hands, but do prefer maintaining a delicate touch while shaving. I kept the Merkur nearly fully tightened toward its mildest setting but lately the adjuster began drifting on its own and that, together with (normally hidden) flaking chromium plating had me search for something comparable and crafted of stainless steel. The Ambassador presents its blade differently than the razor I’m coming from. Whatever is technically different about it has been pleasingly so, for the mildest setting on this Ambassador felt to me as if it had no blade in it! Today was Ambassador shave number four at setting 2.5 and while it seemed more aggressive than I’m accustomed to, it didn’t require much caution to remain ‘safe.’

I have been using mine for two weeks and cannot believe how much I love using the razor as well as the results that it provides. The shaves are precise and easy with all the blade feel that you wish to achieve based on your adjustment setting. Also, the super aggressive knurling allows me to hold the razor by the tips of three fingers which I really appreciate. I would call this a well designed and very well produced piece of American steel. My only buyer’s remorse is the money spent on other razors before I found this one (excluding my Blackland Dart).

I’d like to add an update. Muscle memory kicked in in terms of the right angle and pressure to hold the razor and the angle was corrected. This is now my favorite razor to use even more than the Rockwell. It requires a slightly higher angle to get a smooth feel and no drag from the wide safety bar. People sometimes want to give something 5 stars off the bat as if to say, there’s no way I have buyers remorse after spending $249 on something. Well I did after the first week. But 5 weeks later I can give it 5 stars hands down.

The razor gets 5 stars for the build quality , 5 stars for the shave, and 2 stars because of the blade drag. This razor literally does not want to glide on your face, it gets sucked down. I haven’t experienced this with other razors and I assume it’s due to the size or shape of the baseplate. If holding it at the correct angle to avoid this doesn’t bother you then all the other factors are solid. It really took the enjoyment out of shaving with this for me until I correct the angle.

Never really been a fan of adjustables and when I tried an early
release model, a few months ago, the drag experienced was off-putting.
Reading of some modifications, I bought the latest N4 model just
before Christmas and couldn’t be happier. Razor is beautifully made
and even on maximum setting, the shave experience is comfortable and
smooth. So glad I took the plunge. I’m extremely impressed.

The Rex Ambassador razor is one helluva razor. This is a grand slam home run. On the 2nd lowest setting I got a BBS supreme. From the get go, out of the box it looks like a Ferrari/Rolls Royce. Easy to load a blade. Easy to set depth. Handle is ergonomically perfect, ymmv. Razor cuts hair like a hot knife thru butter. No nicks, no weepers. Smooth shave. Cleans easily. Did I say it is one helluva razor?

A beautiful adjustable. I have only used the razor twice but I am very impressed with it. I had a question about the razor and called the customer service line at Razor Emporium and left a message. Within five minutes I had a return call from the founder and creator of the Rex and Razor Emporium, Matthew. He was very helpful and told me about the improvements they have made to the razor based on customer feedback. On the latest batch, a higher compression spring was used so the adjustment dial doesn’t move so easily. I can say the dial moves perfectly. I am not concerned about touching the adjustment dial when shaving as I have heard others discuss. It is a very nice looking, solid razor that should last many generations. I have a very coarse beard and very sensitive skin (not a good combination!). I have not used the razor above the 2 setting. On the lowest setting I got an extremely efficient shave, and yet, it was mild and smooth (I didn’t think that combination was possible). I have de shaved over two years now and own many different Razor’s (Futur, Merkur Progress, 34HD, Edwin Jaeger, and both Rockwell Razor’s (6S and 6C) My favorite razor before this has been the Rockwell 6S. The Rex is very smooth like the 6S but I don’t have to adjust with the different plates. Certain parts of my face I only use the Rex at the lowest setting, and other parts of my face I turn it up. The Rex reminds of the Merkur Progress but a smoother shaver in all stainless steel. At first, I was interested in the Rex until I saw the price. After watching videos and reading reviews I decided to order one. I figured for a comfortable shave it was well worth it. I own number 643. The more people buy the more you will hear great accolades for the Rex Ambassador. I could easily spend $250 to fill a monthly prescription; I figured I would spend the $250 for great, comfortable shaves, the rest of my life! Also, a big thank you to Jerick, with Maggards customer service, for answering my questions and getting the razor shipped in a very timely manner! Maggards is a great place to shop!

high quality is the fist thing you will notice with this razor. very easy to grip the handle even when your hands are wet and have soap on them. and it shaves perfectly, first shave, no nicks, cuts or even a weeper. but a complete BBS shave. yes it’s expensive but it should last a lifetime, and it even has a lifetime warranty.
